For my Daughter's 3rd Birthday we had a 50's Sock Hop, guests are of all ages. I e-mailed the invitations,  I used a black & white photo of Celia in her poodle skirt and  in it I wrote "Bad boys with their Hot Rod Cars, Good girls in their Poodle Skirts and Scarves, All meet down at the Soda Shop. After Dancin at the Sock hop, So say you'll come to Celia's shin-dig, it's going to be the most happenin' gig, We'll be rockin around the clock, We'll be swingin in our bobby socks." I then included all contact info. It turned out so cute. We held it in a club house at my friends condo. It is a very large space and we had only 30 guest, so we needed to fill it up. So we made a balloon arch,  on either side of the arch was a mug made of cardboard, spay painted with silver,  then out of the mug was a red and white straw sticking out made from a old gift wrapping tube painted. I used PVC tubing to arch over to the other mug & tie balloons in 4's then attached them to the PVC tubing, pink, white & black were the colors with one red one in the mug for the cherry. It was so nice!! I put it around the cake table. I also made 2 sundaes from a large piece of flat cardboard,  I painted a tall sundae glass light pink with sliver strips, on the top of the sundae it was painted white, I applied white balloons for the ice cream & one red one for the cherry with a straw coming out, also made from a old gift wrapping tube painted. Then we made a Jukebox from a very large card board box, my husband painted it using gold, black, red, & white, he did an excellent job. He also painted a red Hot Rod Car on a smaller box, we took lots of photo's by the Hot Rod. We also had 3 balloon bouquets on all the tables with confetti sprinkled over the pink tablecloth, musical notes &  albums hanging from the ceiling. I choose to severed pizza, chips, cherry coke & root beer floats, this way I was able to enjoy the party & I did not get stuck by the grill cooking burgers. The plates & plastic ware was pink, black & white all mixed up. A friend of mind made a Doll cake with a pink poodle skirt it was on top of a round cake white with pink pokadots & she made a 12 cupcake that look like pink poodles, my daughter loved it. We played lots of games- pin the tail on the poodle, hot wheel drag racing, musical chairs, hand jive & the twist. I gave each kid a prize at the end of games because everyone was a winner. I had slinkies, silly putty, & yo-yo, I wrap them up so it was a surprise. Each child also got a loot bag with a punching balloon, poodle key chain, 50's style candy, lip gloss or a hot rod. I pick it all up at a few different dollar stores around town. Everyone was dress to impress in their 50's attire & we all danced for hours to a mix of 50's music at got at Wal-Mart. I sent out thank you notes buy using the photo's of our guests by the hot rod car on the back I wrote "We cut the rug and bop till we dropped, all down at the soda shop, Thank you for coming on out to my shin-dig, It was the most happening thing, It's plain to see how much you care, Thank you for the time we shared, With all the time you spent, You'll never know how much it meant."  This was such a fun party to plan I can't wait till next year, & I hope my child never out grows mom's party ideas.
