My daughter's 9th birthday was a truly fabulous 50's party! First we made an invite to remember...I got a lot of 45's from a seller or eBay for $3.00. I got a hot pink portable pocket" from a company callled Envelopments (you can find dealers on-line)The 7X7 Portable pocket was the sleeve that the 45 slipped into perfectly. We printed a cover on matte brochure paper(from Stapes)using microsoft word w/ 50's style clip art (57 Chevy...date time & place RSVP to Jones Records Attn: Mary...The labels were cut out wth the Creative Memories Circle cutter...fit perfect on the record...of course we did two labels... a side 1 & side 2. On the back of the sleeve we printed a list of songs (along with 50's graphics) The Fabulous Sara's Greatest Hits...1. Born to be Queen 2. It's My Party 3. Daddy';s Little Angel...etc...use your creativity on that one! Then there were Sara's special requests: "Wear your poodle skirt & rolled up jeans we are gaurenteed to make a scene...Be here at 11:00...don't be late or you won't make the lunch date...So Daddy-O..pick up your little Jitterbug at 2:00 etc..." (you would customize this little poem to whatever you were doing to celebrate in fabulous 50's style!) We planned a lunch at a 50's style diner near our home and then walked across the street to a local bowling alley for some good clean 50's style fun. The best part was when the girls arrived at our home all decked in poodle skirts rolled up jeans etc... we had the dining room set up like a little accessories boutique...They came in and picked out some bangles (in hot pink silver lavendar black & white) Theey also chose a little scarf to tie around their necks(hot pink white black or lavendar)(made them by cutting out sheer fabric from Joann's Fabric store)and a matching one to put in their super high pony tail... The topper was the cat-eye 50's style glasses complete with bling (purchase on eBay...lot of 12 for $23.00 + shipping)that each girl got to pick out from the sunglass rack! We down-loaded some 50's tunes on the iPod and the girls warmed up in the family room dancing 50's style in their adorable fully accessorized outfits before we left for the diner! They were having so much fun! The cake was a huge hit as well...We used a very large round 28 inches in diameter and frosted it with chocolate frosting. Using a comb we made groves in the frosting so it looked like a giant record. With pink icing we wrote Happy Birthday Sara and drew some musical notes on it as well. It was sooo cute! For the favors we got big fuzzy dice from Oriental Trading Co. (14.99 for a dozen) It's funny to see all the girls getting picked up from school now with the fuzzy dice hanging from their mom's rearview mirrors! It was a great party and the girls enjoyed themselves immensely! I hope some of these ideas help you plan your 50's bash!"
