For my sons 4th b-day we had a 50's rock and roll theme.
The invites read "leather jackets, blue jeans, poodle skirts galore, come enjoy it all_______ is turning four" We're gonna rock around the clock...stating at 1:30 pm. At the HOP,and then our address. I just put music notes all over them. For the decorations I made huge paintings of a ice cream soda, a soda pop, hamburger, hotdog and a juke box. I also made signs that read " rock and roll is here to stay" "the hop" . I made the whole place look like a diner and an ice cream shop. I made a sign that said "ice cream soda shop" i covered a table with a black and white checkered covered and cut out the coke signs from the coke box and stuck them on the table cover. That made it look more like a real coounter at a soda shop. I also made a sign with all the prices root beer floot 10 cents, sundae 15 cents and ice cream cone 10 cents. My two nieces ages 10 and 11 worked the shop and severed ice cream for everyone. This was a big hit. On each table was a catchup and mustard bottle and salt and pepper shakers and a menu hamburgers 10cents, cheeseburgers 15 cents, hotdogs 10 cents ...... . I made the center pieces out of sundae glasses filled with candy topped with curly ribbon curled and rolled into a ball with a small red pom pom for a cherry on top and two straws. Everyone loved them. I made the pinata myself. It was fuzzy dice. I cut out boxes to form 2 large perfectly squared boxes I stuck the pieces together with a hot glue gun. then i covered them both with news paper cut into squares and a mixer of flour aand water. When they dried I covered it with tissue paper then the dots to top them off. I hung them in the entry way of the party for decoration like fuzzy dice hung on cars. But then we took them down and the kids had a blast demolishing them. For a gameI made a large sundae on a cardbourd and left the cherry off. But I made a whole instead and had the kids toss red balls until they made it through the hole. Everyone won...... We danced to fifties tunes and took lot's of pictures with our props like inflatable guitars and saxophones. The lootbags were made of 2 felt squares sewn together, top open of course with a handle . I wrote on them with puffy paint the child's name and music notes and "'rock n' roll. they were filled with jacks, play- doe and jump ropes. Everyone had a blast from the past......................
