For my daughter's 10th birthday, we entertained a Grease party theme. For party invitations, we used black posterboard cut out to resemble a vinyl record (45 rpm) with the grooves drawn in
with a silver gel pen. The front said "Grease is the Word". The party information was written on the reverse. We asked each girl to come dressed 50's style. Some wore poodle skirts
with sweaters and scarves. Others wore blue jeans, cuffed calf-high. As guests arrived, there was 50's music playing on the stereo in the living room. Downstairs was set up for the games
& movie-viewing. We had a bubble gum blowing contest, hula hoop contest, and the best part was the movie & trivia game I had created. Prior to the party, I watched the movie AGAIN.
It's amazing all the little things you notice when you're trying to actually look for the details, even if you have seen the movie a million times. I created a completely different set of
trivia questions for each team (approximately 40-50 questions). I purposely gave the teams different questions to make it more challenging. Of course, a few of the questions were repeated for
each team, but I truly could have come up with no duplicates. I had such fun watching the movie and coming up with the questions. I must say it was the most peaceful part of the party. The
girls were so immersed in the movie. Most of the girls had seen the movie before and were singing along throughout. And they were all up dancing, singing, and doing the hand jive, baby!
Prizes were given to the team with the most questions correctly answered. The girls had popcorn served in old theater-style boxes and Coke served in the classic old bottles while watching the
movie. Prior to watching the movie, we had hamburgers, fries, and milkshakes upstairs. My daughter chose to have a cookie cake which was decorated to resemble a tube of hair grease squirting
out the words, just like the opening credits of the movie. For favors, we gave out classic candies and 50's memorabilia. Other greats are the Grease movie posters, life-size stand-ups of John
Travolta, diner style decorations for the eating area, anything representing this great era! A great party favor would be to buy one copy of the Grease soundtrack and burn a copy for each
guest.
