50's Dance Party for 5 year old boy. We started with invitations that were on paper that was a colorful jukebox. I wrote a poem that was sung to the toon of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and added
that note on the top of the invitation. All of the parents were calling me up saying they could not get the toon out of their heads.
In the wording it stated "we'd like you to dress up in your poodle skirts and jeans for the boogie woogie bugle boys rockin dance theme". My husband and I got some spare retro animal print carpet and layed it in the floor of our garage. We covered all of the walls in the garage with black plastic table cloth ( that you get at the party store). We then stenciled white large music notes onto the black walls and hung large plastic records and black plastic music notes off of the beams in the garage. We decorated the main food table with a pinata jukebox for a centerpiece along with some plastic records and an inflatable guitar. The tablecloths were 50's with cars and records on them. The giftbags were also a part of the decorations..We used a plastic aqua blue coupe (a toddler ride in toy) to hold all of the black and white checkered bags with aqua blue ribbon for the boys and pink ribbon for the girls. Each bag was filled with a harmonica, echo microphone, tambourine, and a maraca. We Played a hula hoop game where the kids hoola hooped in the dance party garage to the song peppermint twist. We narrowed it down until the best hula hooper was left and received a prize. We did another dance game to the regualr chubby checker twist where we would play the music the kids would twist and when we stopped the music you had to freeze last one left received a prize. We through in the chicken dance for good measure and the kids had a blast. We also had a pinata that was in the shape of a record. We had 22 kids in the garage that day and they all had a blast dancing. It was so cute to watch them cut it up.
