1950's Drive-In Movie Party.
We had a 1950's theme Drive in movie party in our back yard. The invitations were retro-looking and included a "ticket" for admission. We ordered some old move posters from a vendor on the internet including "the Thing" and "It came from Outer space". These we placed on the fence as you entered into the yard with a sign that said "Coming Soon". The movie we played was "Grease" and we had a full sized poster of that out front as well. We decorated the yard with lights and other movie theme items. I brought home an LCD projector and a screen. I hooked up the VCR to the projector and a stereo. When it got dark we showed a Tom and Jerry Cartoon which the kids loved and then the movie. On our back porch we had the concession stand which included hot dogs (in the foil wrappers), Popcorn (in popcorn boxes); nachos, drinks (with the crushed ice), candy etc. Everything had a phony price such as hot dogs $9.50. This added a little modern humor to the retro theme. We asked everyone to come in 50s attire, and many did. I was in greaser attire while my wife and two girls were dressed in Poodle skirts. People danced and sang to the songs in Grease and a good time was had by all. It was so successful that we are considering a repeat with a 70s theme and the movie "Saturday Night Fever".
