For my daughters 10th birthday we went with a 50's theme. I luckily work as a director of sales and marketing for a hotel. I used one of our banquet rooms for the event. Our invitations were
shaped like records in hot pink and black and found in most party supply stores. We used a big cut out of James Dean that greeted the guests at the door. We had a friend be our DJ and used
50's CDs, you can buy most at Best Buy or some used CDs at a Hastings. We were lucky and got a Chubby Checker CD that was used for about $4.00. We had a twist contest, limbo contest, hula
hoop contest, costume contest for both girls and boys. We were so surprised to see that the kids really got into it. We used a big screen and rear projector unit and showed Grease in the
background like the kids were at 1950's drive-in. Our menu was hot dogs, chips, pretzels and the small ice cream containers of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. I contacted our local
Coca-Cola distributor and was able to purchase cokes, diet cokes and sprites in the little bottles. Her cake was a record done in hot pink and black. Party favors were double bubble, mini
Clark bars, chiclets, and different trinkets. For the boys I added 1950 looking hot wheels cars. Red lipstick from the dollar store for the girls. I used old record albums setting on the
tables with double bubble thrown around the pink balloons for each table center piece. This was our first boy-girl party since preschool and I was so happy to see the boys and girls really
mingle and dance. I ordered a costume from the American Girl catalog for my daughter to wear. We recycled and she wore also for Halloween. My youngest daughter who had just turned four was
also dressed in a poodle skirt. A good time was had by all and my daughter said that all her friends said it was the best party they had ever attended. Also for favors I found old forty-fives
and designed a new label saying BEE BOP PRODUCTIONS. PRODUCED BY (MY DAUGHTERS FULL NAME) ORIGINALLY ENGINEERED (MY DAUGHTERS ACTUAL BIRTHDAY AND YEAR) FEATURING: EACH CHILD'S
NAME AND INSTEAD OF SIXTEEN CANDLES "TEN CANDLES" AND THE DATE OF THE PARTY. Even parents that helped had a great time. We had so much fun we are now at a loss what to do for her 11the birthday that will be later this summer. This was a pretty easy party to do and so much fun came out of it.
