The theme for my son's 1st birthday party was Airplane. The colors used through out was red and purple (I had streamers and balloons in the same color). I made airline tickets/boarding
passes as the invitation. I went on line and searched for pictures of actual airline tickets and recreated them on my computer. It had each child's name personalized as the passenger's name,I
had a barcode on it, everyone was assigned a different seat. The name of the airline was my son's name with a logo (D-Air) I created.
I also made covers for the tickets and perforated the ticket on the side and stapled them inside the cover, so that when you opened it you could actually tear the ticket and leave a stub in your cover. I made me, my husband, daughter and my son's godparents t-shirts with the airline logo on it that we wore at the party. My son wore a cute overall short outfit with a plane on it, until he got icing all over it and then I changed him into a logo t-shirt. I also made a banner with the logo and airline name and a plane that had below it Just plane fun" laminated and hung it. It's hanging in his room now. I rented a kid height table and chairs. I covered the table in white paper so the kids could draw and color on it. I traced Happy Birthday on it so they could color on it. When the kids arrived they colored on the table and then we showed them how to make paper airplanes. They colored the planes and then we took them outside to fly them. The kids really liked it they spend quite a bit of time outside. I also bought some jumbo styrofoam airplanes from walmart that the kids took turn flying. I had a pinata for the older kids (and adults). For souvenirs I ordered gable boxes from www.bayleysboxes.com and made labels for them with the logo and the words "Flight Pak". Inside the "flight pak" was a juice box pack of crackers a toy diecast plane fruit snacks and a piece of candy. Attached to each box was a luggage tag with the logo and the words - This Belongs to 'child's name' on it. I made them myself and bought the laminated luggage tags from office depot. I made little airplanes for the adults and older kids out of a stick of gum life savers smarties and a rubber band(the directions are at www.familyfun.com). My mother-in-law came down and cooked out for the party. The cake was in the actual shape of an airplane. While the kids were making their paper airplanes and while they were eating I had an airplane that hung from the ceiling that I ordered on line (www.futureflyersclub.com)flying around in a circle. That was a big hit but had to remind them several times not to try and touch it. Everyone enjoyed the party and got lot's of compliments about it as well as the invitations."
