This isn't a birthday idea, but I think it's cute. My daughter was expecting a boy, due in Dec. 03.
My son-in-law is a air traffic controller in the Marine Corps. I wanted to plan the baby shower around the airtraffic controller/airplane theme. I made the invitations using controller language, mentioning that this baby was following toddler traffic, allysa jade 2 1/2 yrs ahead of him. I made the centerpiece from enlarging a picture of the tower on the base and gluing four copies onto cardboard to make the "tower". Using some styrofoam inside the tower and some thin floral wires, I attached some planes and helicopters flying around the tower. In the midst of the aircraft I placed one stork flying around with them. I taped two small lines of blue christmas lights to the table and used a white plastic tableclothe that I had punched holes in to accomadate the lights, making the table a runway. The cake was shaped like an airplane. One of the shower games was to hand out paper for the guest to make a paperairplane and I set up a target on the floor. The airplane that made it closest to the target won the prize. We all had lots of fun, and we got to honor daddy along with mommy.
