When my oldest was 2 he loooooved planes. His dad is a pilot and he could not stop talking about planes. SOOOO of course I had to have an airplane themed birthday party. I only
invited 5 children to this party so I could really do alot. My mother and I took old packing boxes and turned them into planes. We cut out the bottom of the boxes and used that part to make
the wings to attach to the sides of the boxes. We attached pretty sturdy elastic to the boxes (like suspenders) so the airplanes could stay up on the child and he didn't have to hold it.
We also made clouds from paper and cotton balls and hung them from the entryway and dining room ceilings. We took roll paper and drew out a runway from the front door where the airplanes (little guests) entered to the connecting room> So they could run up and down the runway with their box planes! I had a lunch party so I could serve airplane meals. I bought lunchables (because of their likeness to airplane meals) and wrapped them in construction paper and drew an airline logo with my sons name on it ( for example I drew a llittle airplane and under it I put Evan Airlines). My husband drew out a runway scene from an airport on the table cloth. I took Evan's airplanes and lined them up on the runway, I also added cars and little people all to set the whole airport themes. I think I even had little trees lining the runway. Of course the cake was an airplane that my mom and I made together. We took a overly large cake pan and cut out an airplane as if your are looking down onto it. Then we took the extra cake and built the wings. We built the tail with graham crackers and frosting. Each child got to go home with their box airplane and of course we stood at the door and thanked them for flying the friendly skys with us!
