Airplane-1 year old Many thanks to birtdaypartyideas.com and all of the people who submitted ideas for helping me plan my son's first birthday party!
I sent out invitations sent on blue cardstock that were made to look like plane tickets. We included the flight name, passenger, flight date, departure time, arrival location. We made them look like like they had perforated stubs and the right side said the flight number (the date of the party...040106, first class; a light meal will be served; If you are unable to make the flight please call an AIR HENRY ticket agent at xxx-xxx-xxxx. Lots of compliments on the invites. Very cheap! I made a "Baggage Claim" sign and posted in our entry way so that guests could place the presents. We made a playlist on out iPod that included a mixture of airplane sounds from World WarII planes and Big Band Music. We hung clouds (8 white balloons tied with fishing line) and planes (blow-ups from airshow.com) from the ceiling. The party was from 11:30-1:30 so lunch was served. I put out bagged peanuts on the drink cart (variety of beverages like found on a plane). The night before I made bagged lunches. Chicken salad sandwiches, potato salad, and fruit salad for the adults and turkey, cheese and bread sandwiches cut with and airplane cookie cutter for the kids as well as goldfish crackers and fruit. Each lunch was put in a brown bag and included a fork and packaged wetwipe wrapped in a napkin held by a sticker that said AIR HENRY (made from AVERY labels). I only wish I could have found mini salt and pepper like they supply on the airlines. This was great because everything was done the night before. I made Henry's cake and bought the served cake from a bakery. I had them draw an airplane and make it look like it was sky writing "Happy 1st Birthday Henry". We had 22 adults and 6 kids. For the kids I made airplane shaped cookies and had out frosting and cookie decorating supplies for when they arrived. After lunch my husband took them out for gliding contests. We had foam gliders from Target. Longest flight came in and picked a blow-up airplane from the ceiling, then shortest flight, ect. Every kid picked a plane...this helped with deco clean-up! Each kid also got a "Top Secret Flight Plan" box (from birtdayexpress.com) which include wings I bought off of e-bay, crayons from the dollar store, a coloring book I made from pictures off of the web, jet tattoos, airplane stickers and chocolate money. There were two babies so they got a box with teh "Planes" board book as well as wings and a tattoo. I got so many compliments on the party. I bought thank yous from Texas Keepsakes on ebay. They had a Cessna on front and were printed with Henru's full name. In the thank yous I included a picture of Henry in his flight suit. The kids had fun, the adults had fun, and best of all Henry, Dad and I had fun!
