My 6 yr. old wanted an Alice in Wonderland party- so we had to do everything from scratch (she didn't want a party that had been done" before). Luckily her birthday is in September I found a garden arch and covered it with some luau tissue garlands then some bright mix and match plastic plates as serving plates and bright spring checkered tablecloths for the tables. Even though every thing had different patterns it looked great because I tried to make sure everything had the same bright colors.   We had the girls dress in their best "mad tea party" clothes my daughter wore her Alice dress (courtesy of Disney's gift shop) and my husband wore a Mad Hatter Hat. We got a bunch of paper accordian hats from Oriental Trading in bright colors and polka dots and "pearl" necklaces in different colors (mardi gras beads).    As they walked in the house we covered all the living room walls with the wide scenic border that looked like a countryside I think it was a disney princess one but without the princesses.  Then we made a large butcher paper tree with crepe paper leaves hanging over the doorway to the family room and hung a black metallic curtain over the doorway with a giant arrow pointing towards it with the words "rabbit hole". As the girls got there my daughter would have them "jump" into the family room with her. As a starting activity the kids decorated small plastic coffee cups from the party store (they looked like teacups) with stickers until everyone got there. For games we got some pink flamingos at a really cheap price- they were perfect for playing croquet (sp?) with. Then we had teams try to serve "tea" by filling their cups with beans and running across the yard with the cups balanced on their heads- the first team to fill their container at the end won.  We also played "pin the grin on the Chesire Cat" (a variation of pin the tail on the donkey).  For the pictures and the grins I printed out an image on paper using the publisher program on our computer as a poster then taped the pages together and glues them on a piece of poster board. It was a pain but anything for the sake of the theme.   We served "tea" (lemonade- what do think I am crazy?) had pasta salad sandwiches shaped like hearts potato salad fruit salad and had a veggie tray. For the treat bags we gave out glow bracelets neon bubble bottles smile face maze novelties and crazy straws. And being I'm not very good at baking it worked out well because it was actually a good thing that my cake came out crooked.  I told everyone I did it on purpose!"
