The 2nd Birthday is just as important as the 1st.  I was struggling to come up with an idea for our son Logan's 2nd birthday. I really enjoyed planning is his first birthday that I felt the pressure to out do it with the second.  I searched and searched through preschool activity books and on the internet and finally came up with the theme of the letter "B." "B" is not only the first letter in Birthday, but it is also the second letter of the alphabet (hence the word 2nd). I quickly began running with my new idea.  I put up a tent in the back yard and put "Books" for these toddlers in the tent and each child was able to take home a book of their choice. I then covered the back yard with "Balloons", again one for each child to take home. My son loved "Bear in the Big Blue House" at the time so we played "Bear's" music in one corner with "Bandanas" that the children could dance with and provided stuffed animal "Bears" for them to share in the fun. I filled Logan's little pool with "Boats" so the children could cool off and swim.  We also filled a sand box with "Buckets" and other toys for sand play. We made a tunnel out of "Boxes" for the children to crawl through and we put "Birds" and "Butterflies" all over the back yard hanging from trees and rope for the decoration.  We also put out our son's "Basketball" hoop for the children to play "Ball." Each child was also given a "Ball" to take home as well.  At the end of the party each child receive a "Bag" to collect their goodies and take home.  Logan's Cake was decorated with "Bear in the Big Blue House." Everyone had a really great time and all the materials were either made or bought from area dollar stores. Some great resouces for age appropriate activities for children are early childhood education activity books, found in libraries or bookstores. Now, what to do this year?.......
