American Girl Doll Tea Party For my daughter's eighth birthday we began with the invitation...A Tea cup shape handmade invite with the instructions written on the tea bag which was inside the
card.
The tea cup was decorated with stamps and colored by my daughter. The girls were to come with their favorite doll! Once the girls arrived they began with a craft project. I had searched throughout our town in thrift stores for tea cups. I then melted Gel Wax (following directions) in the cups to make candles. The girls then decorated the outside of the cups with jewels. We then went outside since the weather was just right and played two games. We played "Throw the Tea bags into the tea pot." Using a small box (decorated to look like a tea pot) the girls threw bean bags into the box. Every girl got a handmade tea cup magnet for trying. Then we played "Mother May I?"--this was played like it is done always, except the Mother reached into a tea cup to pull out the directions the girls were to do. Then we went back inside for the present game. Here the girls passed a wrapped gift around and when the music stopped, the girl holding the gift unwrapped it--only to find another wrapped box. The music started again and when it stopped, that girl unwrapped it! And so on, and so on, until the last box revealed little bags (resembling rice bags from a wedding) filled with rhinestone rings and bracelets. The girls then went to the tables where my best china was out, and my husband and I were waiters. The tables where covered in pink table cloths with white candles and a tea pot set I found at a novelty shop! We served heart shape ham sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly wraps and tea cookies with tea (iced) and pink lemonade. We then had traditional cake and ice cream after the tea was served. We then went to another room to open the gifts and in the last gift there was a message with a key. It informed the girls that they were to look for keys that were attached to clues (for next key's location)to unlike the "Treasure Box" and gave a clue to the next keys hidding place. The girls then screamed and ran around and found all the clues and keys. Each tried to open the lock till we found the right key. Inside the treasure box there were white bags stapled to look like tea bags filled with ceramic toy tea sets I found at the Dollar store and candy poppers (hand made with toilet paper rolls and tissue paper--stamped on the outside for decoration). The girls appeared to have fun and so did we!!!!
