My daughter loved The Little Mermaid, so when she was about to turn three, she asked to have a "Fishy" birthday party. We made invitations to look like postcards.  We used yellow construction paper for the background.  We cut strips of blue paper and folded them several times to make the paper look wavy, we also used scalloped pinking shears to cut the top of the water.  We added an orange dot for the sun and drew rays. Then we put fish stickers in the water and jumping out of the water.  The front of the invitation read: "You are o'fish-ally invited to Amber's birthday party!" along with the relevant information. It came out really cute.  We decorated the house with lots of balloons (blue and yellow). We bought plastic fish, lobsters and crabs and put them everywhere.  We also had flower garlands and tissue fish hanging everywhere. We were able to find a fish pinata as well.  We had two cakes one was a mermaid and the other was a fish.  They were both easy and very cute (Cakefinder.com). To mark our house we made a big Aloha sign and hung it over the garage door. As guests arrived, we set up an easy craft. Using paper plates and pre-cut fins and tails, kids were to create their own fish. Our guests were between the ages of 1 and 50, so we had to have a variety of foods.  We had goldfish crackers, blue Kool-Aid and Hawaiian punch, "poi" (vanilla pudding with purple food coloring), blue Jell-O with gunny fish, hot dogs, burgers, chicken, potato salad and beans.  We played several games: pass the coconut (hot potato), pin the monkey on the palm tree, and Dolphin Ring Toss.  We also ended up having a limbo contest and a hula hoop contest. The limbo contest, the hula hoop contest and the hot potato game were big hits. It was quite funny to see the adults trying to cheat during the pass the coconut game and bending backwards during the limbo contest. EVERYONE had a blast at this party.  Two years later, my daughter is still talking about her "fishy party".
