My two oldest sons are 2 yrs (less two weeks)apart and they both wanted an Army party. So we decided to have Jace's (6th) & Johnny's (4th) DOUBLE Birthday Army party. My Husband, our
2 yr old son, the birthday boys and myself were all dressed in our fatigues.
The party was in August 2004 and went great. It was a beautiful day and we had it in our backyard. We had about 60 people and 30 of them were kids!!!! We were very busy keeping them entertained. We had been to Washington D.C. right before and I had taken a great picture of my boys saluting infront of the Capital building with thier army camoflauge shorts on, so I used that picture and had an invitation printed. (I used Shutterfly.com) It read "United We Stand" with the American Flag, I had printed..."Jace & Johnny (last name) WANT YOU!!! for a DOUBLE birthday party at their command post on August 28, 2004...(address) at 1300-1600 hrs (1-4 civilan time) RSVP (last name) headquarters by 8/21 and raindate 8/29." Then I attached my own printed post it size paper, I printed up on the computer that read "ATTENTION JOIN US FOR AN ARMY ADVENTURE. CAMOFLAUGE ATTIRE IS OPTIONAL. PLEASE DO NOT BRING TOY WEAPONS, ALL ACCESSORIES WILL BE PROVIDED. BE READY TO GET DIRTY AND A LITTLE WET. SEE YOU THERE!! PRIVATE JACE & PRIVATE JOHHNY." (IN CAMOFLUGE COLORS) I purchased many of the items from Oriental Trading Company, and also a local party store for army paper goods and flag type items and the pinata too!...and the day started out like this.......When the kids arrived they were greeted by a sign infront that read "ATTENTION Jace's 6th & Johnny's 4th b-day... Soldiers report this way"> (to the backyard)I also had American flags and army balloons by the sign). Then my husband greeted them to get camoflauge paint on their faces, and a flag decal. Then they got geared up with a helmet and dog tag and then I took their picture infront of the American flag (which I sent in the Thank You cards back to them) I had a camoflauge post it board (Old Navy) with the mission timeline of all the things we had planned and a big sign sheet for the boys. The first game we played was my husband hid Army men and we gave them binoculars and a canvas camoflauge bag to find as many as they could. I bought several prizes from the $ store of army things for winners of all the games and put it in a camoflauge laundry bag (Old Navy). Then I played "Sergeant says" with them next ( they LOVED that and it was hard to get them all out, I had 5 standing for about 10 minutes and decided that they all won.. hee hee. ) Then it was time for "CHOW" and above the kid tables hung a sign that said "MESS HALL" I served hotdogs, hamburgers, nuggets, pizza bagels, chips, etc. and all BBQ food for adults, but the kids liked the "Jungle juice" (green Hawaiian punch) the best. I had it in a big punch bowl. After lunch my husband had them do a Boot camp type game where they followed Jace & Johnny leading their own team through hula hoops and up through the play house (which had a "HQ" sign on it)picking up balls etc... Then they were issued their water guns and had a marksmanship game where they shot down army men. Then there was a grenade water balloon toss at army men sat up on cups. Then a SURPRISE.... WE HAD THE ICE CREAM MAN COME AND PULL INTO OUR DRIVEWAY ...When they heard him they all got soooo excited and everyone got an ice cream. Then back to the backyard for a Hummer pinata, with a camoflauge bandanna to blindfold them with. Then I served cupcakes I made... half Chocolate (Jace's favorite) and half Vanilla (Johnny's favorite) each with green spray icing and choclate sprinkles and army men on them. They were on a Army board game facing each other. They each also got a plastic camoflauge GAP plastic bag (which my local sore was so nice to give me) to put their pinata goodies and all their gear into to take home and I put a camoflauge pencil, bracelet and plane in too!. I'd say it all went very well. My boys were thrilled and so were their friends and cousins. So even though I was so TIRED!!!!.... It was worth it cause hopefully they will remember it for a loooonnnngg time!!! I guess I was lucky too, to do both of them together, since they are exactly 2 weeks apart (2 yrs) and they both wanted an Army party, I got away with doing it the week inbetween. I got some ideas from this site and was proud of myself at how creative I was for the rest. Even though I'm a "girly girl", having "my 3 sons" and a G.I. Joe fan Husband has made me an expert in the field!!! HAVE FUN!!!!! :)
