Military Theme Party- 3-7yr olds For my son's 7th birthday he wanted a military themed party.
He invited 20 children ages 3-7 (relatives came as well). About 3-4 weeks before the party my mother and I went to several recruiting offices telling them about the party and asked if we could get some stickers or pencils for their treat bags, they were very generous, they even gave us plastic bags to use for the treat bags. Two weeks before the party we made invitations out of flag printed paper stating there was going to be a recruitement party and we wanted them to join. In each invitation we put a post it note saying to bring a white tee shirt. I put in the RSVP that is was very important to RSVP by the date as favors would be personalized. That worked out well. I recruited my family members to help as both my parents and brother were in the military. They enjoyed being asked. Everyone including the kids came dressed in camo. When the children arrived they were direct to a table we had set up called the recruiting station. My sister took care of this booth (she was expecting good set down job) there the children gave their names to recieve their dog tags, and handed over their white tee shirts. They were asked which branch they would like to go into: Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines. Once they picked there branch we put an iron on of that force on their shirt. ( I used my computer to make the iron ons.) Once they got there shirts and put them on they went to the face painting booth (my 9yr old daughter, my mom did this). From there they were seated in folding chairs in front of a podium. That is where they met the Major Pain ( my father ). He seperated them into the four branches and assigned the drill sergants to them (my husband, and brother) Due to having 20 kids, we combined, the Army and Navy- Marines and Air Force together. They did exercises and ran around the block with the kids! When they came back we did an obstacle coursce, tug of war, and rescue the hurt soldier. Then they ate lunch hotdogs and chips. For the cake I made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing and put army men on each one. I marked a few cupcakes on the bottom and who ever got those got a prize. I also marked the chairs as well. After they ate we opened gift and then we had an award ceremony, during this they were given their treat bags shook hands with all the sergants and received a certificate we made on the computer. The bags were filled with all sorts of things from the recruiting offices, pens, pencils, posters, bookmarks, balls, I bought gernade water balloons and put in there and little plastic army men with parachute on them. The Navy gave me things to give to the adults, so I used them to give to all the adult helpers I had. Before everyone left we all did a group picture with the kids saluting. I made copies and mailed them to the kids with their thank you cards. I also had my son write thank you cards to the recruiting offices and sent them a picture as well. It was a great party, everyone still talks about it!
