Our Army party started by purchasing military themed invitations at a local party supply store, and including our own insert.  The insert included the location of the training, the training schedule with time line, and the mess hall menu.  The location of the training was given in longitude and latitude down to the degrees and seconds, along with conventional directions. The training schedule was a list of all activities that were being preformed, who the instructor was and where in the house the activity was being played. The mess hall menu was provided so that parent could inform the General (my wife) or myself (Sergeant) of any allergies that some of the children might have.  Of course we included in the invitation or phone number and the "password" to ensure that the enemy couldn't call in reference to the party.  Once the children started arriving we began cammoing up their faces. Once the soldiers were cammoed up the received their dog tags, they were ready for the activities.  The first activity on the training schedule was the "grenade throw".  We purchased a silhouette target from an Army Navy surplus store. The silhouette was attached to a large piece of cardboard and the center of the silhouette cut out as the target.  The soldiers were then given "grenades" which were bean bags made out of pockets of Army fatigue's sown shut. The second activity was similar to the old grand prize game at bozo.  We used plastic grenades purchased at a local discount store and had the soldiers try and drop the grenade into the bucket, which was old ammunition cans that were purchased at the same Army Navy surplus store. The third activity had the soldiers test their marksmanship.  We used cardboard again and cut out pictures of tanks, airplanes and helicopters then attached them to the cardboard and had the soldiers try and hit the targets with the bean bags used in grenade throw. Then the soldiers were marched up to the second floor where the parachute drop was to take place.  The soldiers were each given a plastic Army man with a parachute attached and attempted to drop the paratrooper on the target below (we have an open foyer). Then the soldiers were ready for their final event…the obstacle course. The obstacle course consisted of low crawl under barbwire (crawling under an Army blanket spread over four milk crates), then the soldiers had to walk over the water hazard (a 2x12 piece of wood on milk crates, over a kiddie pool filed with plastic snakes and alligators), then the soldiers crawled through the camouflaged tunnels, the final obstacle was the rope climb up to the side of wall (only about 6 foot, but we still had a twin mattress at the bottom). After all the activities were complete, the soldiers were marched to the command location. The command location was a folding table under a cammo net (purchased from the Army Navy surplus store) suspended from the ceiling and hanging over the door entry.  In the command location served as mess hall and present opening area. During the mess hall hours soldier were given their regular food as well as offered parts of MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) for dessert.   After the mess hall closed and presents were opened, the soldiers were ready to be discharged.  The soldiers were all given a cammo gift bag (purchased from a party store). The bag included plastic army soldiers, the paratrooper they dropped on the target, a small American flag, candy and some military patches purchased at the Army Navy surplus store.  Each soldier also received a certificate of completion thanking them for attending as well as dismissing them.  The final event was saluting the soldier as his parents picked him up and pinning a medal on them as they left (medals were again purchased at the Army Navy surplus store).  Everyone including the parents had a great time!
