For my sons 7th birthday he wanted an army party.  We loved the idea.  We sent out invitations that had on the cover a photo of uncle Sam saying I want you for the US army.  In the inside we are on a mission to celebrate his 7th birthday.  I said date, base, time in military time, RSVP your commanding officer, and they were instructed to wear camouflage clothes and be prepared for troop training.  My son always wanted a house party and this was his first.  It was a great success. When the guests arrived we gave them each dog tags and camo hats from oriental trading.  We borrowed tires from the local garage for the weekend. My husband and I were both dressed as sergeants with whistles.  They took turns running the obstacle course through the tires and crawling under some green netting held up from sticks. Then on the backyard slide and monkey bars.  We then had fun with waters grenades bombing pictures of Osama bin Laden taped to the fence.  Then we played hot potato with a water grenade balloons.  Next we showed them a real grenade and had fun passing it around. The food was "man" food - hot dogs and beans served in metal pie plates. They had water in canteens and play pocket knives too. The best was we MADE (prior to the party) a piņata.  My sons and I had so much fun, it was a tank made from boxes and a paper towel cardboard for the tank.  We used newspaper, glue and crepe paper.  It looked great, we printed photos of tires, a flag, and United States to add more detail. For the cake, we made a tank cake. I used to cake pans. One 9 x 12 and a smaller square one on top.  For icing I mixed, white and brown with green food coloring.  It was camo green.  We added a flag on a toothpick and used oreos for tires.  The cannon was 2 funny bones held with a skewer, covered in food coloring. We decorated with army men and brown frosting and crushed oreos for dirt. It looked like a lot of work but it wasn't. Everyone had so much fun and so did I. We didn't have time to play pin the mustache on Uncle Sam.  I had blown up a photo at Staples for $3 and displayed it on the front door for when guest arrived.  We were going to use it for the game but we ran out of time. The party was from 3 to 5 PM. It could have gone on longer.
