For my sons' 9th birthday party, we did a boot camp party. As the kids arrived, we painted their faces with camo paint, I engraved dog tags with their codes names, and they decked themselves out in camo headbands. Our first activity included an obstacle course.  They weaved through garbage cans, over boards, crawled under army nets, (with a parent squirting them with a hose), disengaged a hang grenade,(water balloon under the trampoline), up monkey bars, into the playhouse, and back down to proceed to a man drawn on the window who they shot with a nerf suction gun.  We timed them all and yelled and blew whistles at them the whole way.  Other games we did included hand grenade water balloons that I set up around the yard as land mines.  They put the headbands over their eyes and walked around the yard trying not to pop the land mines.  I also froze paratrooper men inside balloons and they melted those in the pool while they cooled off from the obstacle course. We also had ropes out front that they went from tree to tree on and another rope that they had to climb up.  We used safety harnesses around their chest to help them up and tree. Everyone wanted to keep doing everything.  Last but not least, I sent them on a scavenger hunt looking for their goody bags.  I dug a hole in the ground and buried a camouflage bag filled with their goodies.  They enjoyed searching for it, but eventually needed a clue from mom as to where it lay hidden. Goody bags included bomb bags, military gliders, and barb wire bracelets all from Oriental Trading Company. This party was a great success. They enjoyed getting down and dirty and we shaped them up for the best birthday party ever!!
