This was without a doubt my favourite party I have held. I was not looking forward to planning it as the army really did not capture my imagination but it turned out to be so enjoyable and I would really recommend this theme. We printed the invitations out ourselves on white paper with a camoflage border. This was written on them:  General *our surname* requests your attendance at his boot camp Date Time Birthday rations will be provided on completion so please ensure you come dressed ready for war! We invited 7 guests so there would be 8 children altogether as I thought that would be a sensible amount for what I wanted to do with them.  We set up a gazebo we already had in the garden and under it put a real WW2 gas mask and soldiers bag for the guests to loom at and try on, also some chairs for them to rest on.I had managed to borrow these from a fried of a friend. The majority of the party would be based here. As the guests arrived they were presented with a plastic camo hat, some plastic dog tags with their name on that also told them whether they were in Team 1 or 2 and had a smear of camo face paint rubbed on their face by my son that came in the form of a lipstick so was very easy to use and you can get from any army surplus store for a pound or two.  I was delighted to see that all the guests had got into the swing of it and came in costume, mainly camouflage combat gear which was ideal. My sons grandmother came in WW2 washer woman style complete with curler at the front and tabard and duster which looked fantastic. I had convinced my son that he would be wearing an old pair of camo shorts he had for the party but actually his grandmother had bought him a complete outfit from an army surplus store of khaki trousers(£1), a camo t shirt (£2.99), a pocketed waistcoat (£10.00) and a kids version of the proper soldiers helmet (£10.00). He then wore his own Air Wair boots.  Firstly my son rounded all his guests up and told them they were at his boot camp now and were expected to do whatever he asked of them. He then introduced them to his Seargant (his auntie in costume) who made them perform a drill. She was extremely strict with them in a comical way and all the kids really seemd to enjoy it thankfully. After this I had set up a simple, but effective assault course around the garden. It consisted of a circus pedaller, a skate ramp to run up one side and down the other, football training hurdles to jump a camo bet to crawl under and then a water balloon to hurl at a full blown lifesize picture of Hitler that I had painstakingly drawn lol. You couldnt pass this point till you had soaked him!We timed this and the 2 fastest times won a camo wallet each (fron the poundstore). After this the guests were told to get into their teams as stated on their dogtags. The smallest member of the team then had to be the 'injured party' and the other 3 members of the team had to wrap 2 full toilet rolls around him (not the face), then transport him on a duvet cover with the help of their groups adult to the gazebo. The members of the quickest team to do this all won a prize.  After this it was time to eat in the kitchen which had been rename the Mess Hut for that day and I did traditional party food. I had been given some glowlights from a friend of a friend and I had decorated the table with them. The tableware was all camo themed which is available to buy at nearly all party stores. The cake I had made and was a beige tank which was gorgous. After food and singing Happy Birthday, I told the guests we had recived a Ration Box and took out a Pass The Parcel box wrapped in brown paper. Between each layer the guests were able to win a small pack of Snaps which represented bombs. After this it was almost home time, so my son led the guests on a chant round the garden, rather like an army version of the Conga!  For goody bags, the guests were given rationed foods such as fried egg sweets, milk bottle sweets, banana shapes etc tied up with a little brown wartime tag and a slice of cake.   We had also printed out on stickers 'I survived *my sons names* Bootcamp' which they loved. Many of them also asked if they could taken home one of the glowsticks from the food table. This was so enjoyable.
