My children and I are planning a "Back to School" birthday party for their August birthdays.  We are planning a Pencil Cake, a cake shaped long and narrow like a pencil with black, white, yellow and pink frosting to complete it.  For party games we will play musical chairs, pin the name tag on the teacher, and have a school bus shaped pinata filled with candy and pencils and erasers. For goody bags we are going to fill pencil boxes with a mixture of school supplies and candy.  We are hoping for a great birthday party and to get the kids excited about going back to school the following week.  It will also be a jump start on school shopping!
