Kids Birthday
Party Supplies

We held our daughter's sixth birthday party last Saturday. She loves the movie Barbie of Swan Lake so we chose this as a theme. I ordered the Barbie of Swan Lake paper goods online.  We invited my daughters entire kindergarten class, so we handed out the invitations at school two weeks in advance of the party. We ended up with eight guests, plus the birthday girl, and two older siblings, who helped alot with the party activities.  On party day we decorated our back yard with pink balloons, Barbie of swan lake mylar balloons, and pink, white, and blue streamers. I bought a bubble machine at wal-mart, and our yard looked very festive with balloons and streamers blowing in the breeze, and tons of bubbles floating everywhere. My daughter dressed up for the party in her Barbie of Swan Lake gown, and welcomed her guests as they arrived.  They kids played on our back yard play structure, and with the bubbles until everyone arrived, and then we started the activities.  First my daughter opened her gifts.  After all of the presents were opened and admired, we moved on to pin the horn on the unicorn. I drew a purple unicorn ( similar to the one in the movie) on a large sheet of poster board. The kids took turns sticking on pink poster board horns with double sided tape.  We used a pink satin sleep mask for the blindfold, which seemed to speed things up a bit.  Our next activity was decorating magic wands. I made the wands from dowel rods which I spray painted gold. Next I cut two star shapes from poster board for each wand and glued them on the end of the dowel.  Finally I coated each star with glue, and sprinkled on gold glitter. The wands were very cute and really easy to make.  I set out three childrens picnic tables under the tree in our yard for a craft area, it also served as a place for cake and ice cream later on. On the tables I put out glittery jewels, stickers, ribbon, and glue for decorating the wands. The kids had a great time decorating, even the boys, and when they were done each had a beautiful magic wand to take home.  Next we served the birthday cake.  I ordered a chocolate Barbie of Swan Lake cake from our local bakery. For the ice cream I served individual chocolate/strawberry sundae cups.  For drinks we had coolaid served in Barbie of Swan Lake cups, complete with a plastic keepsake cup for the birthday girl. After cake and ice cream we were ready for a treasure hunt.  I found a decorative wooden chest at wal-mart and spray painted it gold, for a perfect treasure chest.  I made up ten rhyming clues which let the kids all over our yard.  The two older siblings read each clue to the guests, and had as much fun as the younger kids. They finally found the treasure hidden deep in my peony bushes, and split the loot into individual treat bags. The chest was filled with pearl necklaces, rings, party poppers, plastic snakes, chocolate gold coins, hershey's gold nuggets, and peanut butter cups. The kids had a great time with the treasure hunt and were so excited when they found the chest. For the last fifteen minutes or so the kids played in the backyard.  they shot off the poppers, played on our play gym and in the playhouse, and with the bubbles. My daughter was given several my little ponies as gifts, and a group of kids played with the ponies on our back porch.  At pick up time, my daughter said goodbye to her guests, and sent each one home with a treat sack, and their magic wand.  It was a beautiful day, and a wonderful party. One little girl told me it was the funnest party ever.
