Barbie Tea Party 4yr

Honorable Mention

Feb 2003

Sue in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

For my daughters 4th birthday recently I held a Barbie Tea Party.  I hand made the invitations, they were in the shape of a tea pot with a small Barbie picture in the centre and the appropriate details written in different colour fluro pen. Hanging from the spout of the tea pot on a thin gold ribbon I put a love heart explaining that there would be a real life Barbie as our guest.  I decorated the house with pink and white balloons, I had a large picture of Barbie on the front door, starting at the front door was a line of balloons leading to the room where the party was, and pink and white streamers covered the doorway into the room. I stuck the balloons with magic tape to the ceiling, as to not peel the paint and save money on using helium. I tied curling ribbon to the balloons with pink and white hearts on the ends.  I had several Barbie pictures I cut out of a calender and mounted to cardboard and hung them from the air conditioning vents in the ceiling.  I also had some more stuck on the breakfast bar cupboards.  I used my daughters Barbies and accessories to decorate the room also.  The cake I made was a 'dolly vardon' style with a Barbie Doll in it. Light pink icing and 100's and 1000's for her skirt with chocolate freckles as the trim on her skirt. The food served was love heart shaped fairy bread, small pink and white marshmallows, 100's and 1000's biscuits and some hot food.  Pink cups for drinks with pink straws.  Barbie plates, pink spoons.  I covered the chairs with pink and white material and used crepe paper for bows around the chairs and tied on the back in a bow with a pink gerbera flower in the centre. Also I used a Barbie tablecloth. Barbie was my friend dressed in a gown and I hired a wig. She helped with games, pass the parcel was wrapped in pink and white paper and the prize was a Barbie outfit. On the table I made place cards to match the love heart on the invitation and on their take home bags was the same heart (as invitation) with their name, in these bags, (which were Barbie ones), their was a box of 2 Barbie surprise eggs, a hair scrunchie and 3 love heart lolly pops.  It was wonderful and everyone could not believe how beautiful the room looked and how the invitations etc matched.
