For my daughters' 7th birthday, she really wanted a Princess Barbie party. We decided to both dress up like a princess, so she wore a flower girl dress we had from a previous wedding and
a semi-formal that I had was perfect once I sewed pink silk flowers to the tulle bottom. DECORATING the house was lots of fun, tons of pink streamers and pink balloons hanging
straight down from the ceiling, along with fuzzy butterflies and dragonflies I picked up at the dollar store.
The dining table was adorned with a white linen cloth, placemats cut from pink tissue paper in the shape of a flower, and the centerpiece was a pretty pink teapot surrounded with those pink plastic, fluffy carnation flowers that you decorated the bride and grooms car with. The other tables were decorated with these as well. When the girls arrived we whisked them off to change them into a princess, first stop in the make-up chair, then they chose their jewel crown and princess skirt that I sewed up from tulle. Then they had to sift through a bowl of sand (cornmeal) to find their jewel. We hotglued this on a paperclip and made into a necklace. After they were made up they decorated their jewelry boxes I sprayed lavender with ribbon and flowers and stickers. Next was a Barbie purse piņata that was filled with LOTS of rings, bracelets, earrings, gum, stickers, candy. They loaded this into their boxes to take home later. Then we played pin the barrette on Barbie, and a relay race of taking a straw and sucking a tissue paper butterfly on end then placing in a bowl. They LOVED this challenge and didn't want to stop playing after 3 rounds!! Lunch was 'served' to them: Heart and Flower shape sandwiches, cucumber shaped like hearts, strawberries and melon on toothpicks, chips and of course strawberry lemonade. Each girl had her own square of cake and candle with ice cream, I passed around sprinkles and pink, blue, lavender sugar crystals for them to decorate. We sent pictures of each girl with my daughter as a thank you, they still talk about the party in class!
