For my daughter's 4th birthday we had a Barbie Tea Party.  I had a pink "hoop" dress (Southern Belle costume) that I put on my precious 14 year old niece and got her a blonde "Barbie" wig, plastic tiara, long white gloves and pearls. My sister-in-law decorated the bottom of the dress with the Barbie logo.  The invitation read: Dress your tea time best. Let your dolly or bear be a special guest. We've invited a real Barbie. Join us and see, What great fun a Barbie tea can be! We'll count our teacups one by one so do let us know if you'll join the fun. We slipcovered kiddie lawn chairs (from Dollar General) with white sheets and made big pink tulle bow on the backs.  We covered small tables the same way and served tea sandwiches, petit fours, chocolate covered strawberries and "teacup" sugar-cookies.  My mom made a teapot cake.  We  used  Barbie party plates and pink napkins, but ordered real (glass) demitasse cups from a restaurant supply store.  My niece decorated them with "Barbie looking" butterflies and flowers using a pink paint pen. We set them on the kiddie tables and draped a string of pearls (party favor) in each cup. The place settings were ready when the girls arrived.  "I'm a Little tea pot" played in the background and pink and white balloons were everywhere. I also decorated the house with lots of fresh flowers (pink and white roses from SAMS, using borrowed teacups and teapots as vases).  Barbie arrived kind of like Santa! (We got a phone call that she was on her way). She walked up the path with a purse full of miniature Barbie lipsticks for each girl and a big pink box for the birthday girl. She came in and each girl took a turn sitting on her lap while being photographed (with Barbie Polaroid film).  The girls then got a lipstick and the photo to take home:  along with her teacup, pearls and mini teacup/teapot sugar cookies that were packaged in a clear cello bag. Barbie then served all the girls iced tea from my silver teapot. (I used Crystal Light peach tea. It was a hit with adults and children.) We played pin the teacup on Barbie's hand (using a Barbie poster and cut out teacups).  I also love decorating the outside of my house for parties, so I wrapped a grapevine wreath with pink gingham ribbon and tulle and attached a Barbie doll to it.  We also put my daughter's life-size Barbie outside - holding balloons and wearing a birthday crown to welcome our tea party guests.    Everyone is still talking about it!! And my daughter can not wait to turn 5!!!!
