INVITATIONS Outside:   CONGRATULATIONS: You and your favorite Barbie have been chosen by (birthday girl) to represent (name of town) in our Annual "Barbie and Me" Modeling Debut! Inside:  Please bring your favorite Barbie, in her best dress, to (place) at (time) on (date).  Please call our Agent to reserve your place in the "Barbie and Me" Modeling Debut!  DECORATIONS We hung streamers from the kitchen doorway to make a "curtain" and we ran a carpet runner down the length of the kitchen.   <p>In addition, the Kitchen table was set up with fancy glass plates and teacups with saucers, and the good silver. And the center was a Barbie table and chairs, also set for tea, so each of the girls could put their Barbie down to eat while they did. FOOD Instead of cake, we served petite fours and chocolate truffles with tea and lemonade. ACTIVITIES I pulled out all of (birthday girl)'s play clothes and Barbie gowns, and let each girl choose which one to wear.  (The birthday girl had hers chosen ahead of time so there would be no tears). There were plenty of plastic beads and clip-on earrings for "accessories".  Two friends and myself then assisted our little models (and their dolls) in the hair and make-up department.  There were of course, many pictures taken of the "Getting Ready Process" Each girl was instructed to come into the kitchen through the streamers, turn around once, showing off their Barbie, and then walk to the end of the kitchen and turn around again, again showing off their Barbie, and then walk back through the streamers into the dining room. To the accompaniment of several more pictures.  After they had their turn, they got to come around through the hall and sit at the elegantly decorated table and applaud their fellow models. (again more pictures, I think I used 4 rolls of film, plus one roll of Polaroid film so they could take a glamour shot of themselves home with them) GAMES We played "spoons" where we placed all of the teaspoons in the center of the table (except for one) and put a deck of cards in the center.  When a certain card was found (the 6 of hearts, in honor of the birthday girl), then the girl who found it quietly grabbed a spoon and quit playing, and waited to see if the others would catch on.  The girls giggled their way through it several times. After they had eaten, I pulled out a bunch of stickers and markers and crayons, (the perfect excuse to take off the dress up clothes) and let each of the girls decorate a paper card, which I then put their Polaroid "Glam shot"  into. GOODY BAGS Each of our contestants was given a "Beauty secrets" bag.  (It contained a lip gloss, a fingernail polish, and a candy lipstick and necklace, and a plastic brush and comb set.) And thanked for coming.  (Birthday girl) told each one "Don't call us, we'll call you" as she hugged them goodbye. THANK YOU For thank-you cards we sent everyone a little "Portfolio" of herself getting all dressed up, modeling, eating, and making a craft.
