My daughter just turned five years old, and we had a wonderful Barbie Fairytopia to celebrate. I was definitely inspired by the many creative ideas on this website, and it was really fun to put everything together. I usually make the invitations, but with the kids in so many activities lately, I decided to take the easy route and have them printed.  I purchased the invitations from a gal on Ebay, and she was able to customize the invitation with a picture of "Elina," the main character from Barbie's Fairytopia film.  The wording went like this: Far, far away in a magical place, sits a little fairy with a soft smiling face. Her name is Fairy Princess Tabitha and it would make her day if you would help her celebrate her 5th birthday.  We will have fairy games to play and cake to eat, you will earn your wings and have your face painted sweet!  Tabitha is anxiously counting each day passing by, and her fairy godmother is awaiting your reply...." and so on... The invitations were printed on magnet paper, so they could be hung on the fridge right from the envelope.  I received compliments on them from everyone calling to RSVP.  We decided to have a more intimate party this year (we usually have close to 20 guests), and I'm so glad we did this.  We had six guests, plus my three children, and it was so nice the birthday girl was able to play with everyone.    We decorated our front yard by wrapping pink streamers around the trees, and I found giant plastic butterflies to perch on the lower branches where the guests could see them. Of course, we had tons of balloons on the porch, and a garland of pink flowers at the doorway and the porch railing. I used window markers to paint "Tabitha's Magical Garden" on the door too.  Inside, we hung pink floral garlands everywhere. I was able to get a lot on clearance at Michael's and JoAnn Etc, but my mom actually found several at Good Will! These were the most expensive part of our decorations, but it was worth it--the whole party area really looked garden-like and beautiful.  I spent less than $40 on the garlands.  We also had tons of pink balloons and a couple of Barbie Fairytopia mylar balloons as well.  I bought pink rose petals at Oriental Trading that were scattered everywhere too--even the sofas and table tops!  We also had big colorful roses hanging from our silk houseplants.  Some of the guests actually removed these and used them as hair clips--it was really cute.  One of the best parts of the party was the cake my MIL created. She used a toy house from the Fairytopia section at the toystore, and used it as a topper for the cake. The cake frosting was green to look like a meadow, and it was also decorated with butterflies and flowers--it really looked like a scene from the movie! It was fabulous; in fact, most of the girls didn't even know it was a cake! For entertainment, I hired a local artist who paints faces.  She came dressed as the "Queen of the Fairies" with a long violet gown and giant butterfly wings. The girls were so excited to see her, and she did a wonderful job painting butterflies and fairies on the girls' faces.  She also did some hair beading, which was a big hit.  Because of the face painter, I could relax and not worry to much about entertaining the children. I did however, have some activities set up.  The girls could paint a butterfly sun catcher (from Oriental Trading), and then make a beaded necklace out of it.  Some of the girls did not finish their necklaces, so we packed all the supplies in a goody bag.  They could also color a butterfly glider with crayons (also from Oriental Trading).  We then gave the girls a chance to "earn their wings" like in the movie.  They had to collect at least one plastic butterfly hidden in the backyard--when they returned with one, they were given a set of butterfly wings that I purchased on Ebay.  The girls loved the wings, and I was able to get them at such a great price, I sent some girls home with two pair (for the little sisters).  We had the birthday girl's pink tent set up in the backyard, and along with the face painter, they kept so busy fluttering all around!  We had cake and pink lemonade, and then the birthday girl opened gifts (it was so peaceful with so few guests). By then, the parents were arriving, so we sent each girl home with a gift bag that included their butterfly necklaces, a personalized candy bar with Elina on the wrapper (from Ebay), and their fairy wings.  For thank you cards, we used plain white cards, and we printed photos we took of each girl with her face painted on the front. I can say without a doubt that all the girls had a wonderful time, and I had a great time too!
