I have 2 toddlers, a boy and a girl who's birthdays are only 11 days apart, so we throw one party that they share.
This means that our parties have to be "gender neutral" lol. For their 2 & 3 year old party this year, we had a barnyard party. To start, I made the invitations as a 3-panel card that opened from the center, to look like a barn whose doors opened to reveal the information inside. I added some cows and chicken stickers to the outside, and also put farm animal stickers on the envelopes. Most our guests came dressed in overalls and farm hats, which is how we were also dressed. My daughter had her hair braided in pig tails also. We had a farm fresh feast that included smoked pork ribs, burgers, corn on the cob, fresh fruit, home baked bread, and cheesy potatoes. After lunch, we let the kids play for awhile. We had enlarge an "American Gothic" print (the classic farmer w/pitchfork & daughter picture in front of their farmhouse) and cut out the faces. We had the kids take turn posing with their faces in place and took their pictures. Most of the adults posed too! The cake was a 3D stand up barn cake, on top of a 1/4 sheet cake frosted to look like a barn yard. My kids are big fans of the Fisher Price Little People, so I put some of the Little People farm animals on the cake, and used rice krispy treats as hay bales. It was a HUGE hit! The kids each got a goody bag that included a 'build-a-barn' sticker sheets, bandanas, bendy farm animals, crayons and a couple of Little People Farm themed coloring pages, printed off from the Little People website.
