Barnyard Bash --- For my son's 1st birthday, we celebrated with a barnyard theme.
All of the paper goods and invitations were from Birthday in a Box. Personalized invitations were sent that asked guests to wear overalls or denim and to resond with yeahs or neighs. As guests arrived, they were given a red bandana to wear. Games included: Pin the Tail on the Cow (I drew the cow on a large piece of brown paper and cut it out. I used tails froma generic pin the tail on the donkey game.); Horse Race (I bought wooden dowels and black, dark brown, and light brown felt and used paper grocery bags to make the horses. I cut the horses head out from the paper bags-two for each horse, drew eyes and a mouth, stapled the two pieces of the head together and around the dowel and stuffed it with newpaper. I cut out strips of felt, cut the edges to be shaggy, and stapled it over the "neck" of the horse. I used sidewalk chalk to draw a grid on the driveway. The guests lined up 6 at a time to play the game. The first row of squares were numberer 1-6 and each guest stood in one of the squares. I rolled two dice and called out the numbers. The players in those two squares moved forward one square until someone got to their last square. That was the winner. We had a championship round for the winners of each game. I got this idea from Family Fun magazine.) Food included pigs in a blanket and straw (french fries) for the kids. The adults enjoyed salad and barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs. Favors included farm animal shaped cookies (from Starbucks), mini-beanie animal keychains, squirt toy animals, and stickers, and board books for the littlest guests. I also had his pictures done professionally. He wore his overalls and the background had a wooden fence and a stick horse. I had wallet size pictures made and put them in clear magnet frames for each family to take as a favor to remember my son's 1st birthday. The party was lots of fun and everyone had a great time.
