My daughter's 1st Birthday which is in December I decided to throw her a Barnyard party. I started by buying invitations, plates, napkins, cups and some other decorations at our local
outlet mall(Paper Factory) which had the barnyard theme.
Then I ordered on the internet (www.oriental.com) other barnyard decorations. We bought 4 bales of hay down the street at a hardware store to decorate with. Underneath the cake table I made a muddle puddle with hay and a black garbage bag and placed 3 pig shaped beach balls in the mud puddle. We put hay in a wagon and a wheelbarrow for hayrides. We used a hay bale for storing the presents on and also when it was time to open presents we sat her on it. Instead of a pinata we did a haystack, by using hay and candy and a plastic needle (like finding a needle in a haystack) out in the backyard. Who ever found the needle got a prize. We also put hay in other places and placed sheep, cows, and horses shaped beach balls around my living room and kitchen area. I made 3 cakes the night before which were in the shape of a pig, sheep and a cow (www.familyfun.com cake finder) Day of the Party when the kids arrived I had them shut their eyes and I would put an animal mask on them and have them open their eyes in front of a mirror to see what they looked liked. The kids had a chance to make a barnyard animal (sheep, cow, horse, pig) magnet while waiting for other kids to arrive. Some of the kids went outside for hayrides when they got down with the craft. The younger kids rode in the wagon and older kids got the wheelbarrow. While waiting for the other kids to catch up they played with the bean bag toss game that we got from oriental.com. Next I had all the kids gather around the duck pond which was a galvanized wash tub filled with water and ducks in my kitchen. I dumped apples for apple bobbing and the kids had fun bobbing for apples and if they couldn't get an apple they could get a duck. We also had metal buckets (oriental.com) that we filled with dirt and had the kids plant seeds and they took those home to watch the plants grow. We also had a cake walk and the lucky winner took home the sheep cake for a prize. At the end we did the haystack which hay went every where. We had my daughter open presents and then had cake and ice cream. The party was a success and the kids are still talking about it.
