My husband and I have an adopted daughter. Her adoption's finalization coincided with her first birthday so we decided to have a big celebration. In retrospect, we may have gone a little
overboard for a first birthday, but we had a great time. We checked this site for ideas to get us started. We went with the Barnyard theme. We are fortunate to have a family cabin by a lake
which was the perfect setting for the party. Invitations featured barnyard animals and we were able to have some real live baby animals from a local farm there for the children to see
(chicks, kittens, baby goats, little pigs, etc.) We invited parents too so we had two separate meal options. The children had cheese sandwiches cut in the shape of farm animals and small
brown paper bags marked "chicken feed" with potato sticks and Chex Mix in them. My mother in law is an artist and she hand painted chicks on the bags. The adults had a real
Americana fare with fried chicken, potato salad, deviled eggs, and watermelon. We had tea, soft drinks, bottled water for the adults and Blue Kool-Aid punch with yellow plastic ducks floating
in it for the kids (found this idea on your site!) My mother in law made a pink pig piņata which was adorable. We bought 10 bales of hay which we used as seats and decorations around the
yard. The tables were covered in red and white checked tablecloths and daisies were used to decorate the table. I bought the favors on Oriental.com (animal stickers, erasers, stuffed animals,
etc) We bought little silver watering cans at a craft store and filled each child's can with the favors. We played a game called "Needle in the Haystack". We hid eggs with toys and
stickers in the haystack and let the children try to find them. It was loads of fun!
