My sons favorite movie is the Sandlot.
It is a baseball movie for older children. It can be hard to throw a party for older boys so we decided to have a Sandlot Father/Son Birthday Party. INVITATION. I telephoned the invitees because of a lack of time, but I have used sporting event ticket invitations in the past. ACTIVITY We had it at a neighborhood field and layed out bases etc. (no cost) The fathers had to bat the opposite of what they would normally bat and one handed. The boys batted however they preferred. We used rubber baseballs for safety. FOOD AND DECOR My 13 year old daughter and her friend kept score and ran the concession stand. The girls had their own table which they decorated with posters about baseball. The movie takes place in the early 1960s so we looked for old time concession items. Blow pops, Dubble Bubble bubble gum, Baby Ruth and Butterfinger candy bars and Bottle Caps candy. We also served popcorn and peanuts in red novelty bags along with bags of cracker jacks. We served Mugs rootbeer, water and Gatorade to drink. (We tried to balance out the suger high from all the concessions.) I found most of my supplies at Sams for a very reasonable price. They even had shell on salted peanuts just like at the park After the game was over we cooked out hotdogs and hamburgers with giant dill pickles as a side. (another Sams bulk item) I served basEball themed cupcakes along with homemade cookies shaped like baseball hats and baseball bats. The crowd dined on red checkered tablecloths and white styrofoam plates. FAVORS We gave out copies of the movie as a favor which we found online for $3.50 a copy. The movie is PG so this is best for older kids. I loved this party because it included the fathers. It was outdoors and physical a requirement for 10 year old boys. It was affordable and brought out whole families to cheer on their team and to socialize. I spent about $200 and entertained 40 people(that includes dinner).
