Theme: Baseball It was my son's 8th birthday at the end of September which was an exciting time as he ALS was going on.
I went to the craft store and bought baseball computer paper for $0.20 a piece for the invitatation. I wrote, "Do you want to visit the park where the Babe pitched, the Kid hit, Yaz Dazzled and Nomar and Pedro still thrill fans today? If you answered "yes" then come and join us on a tour of Fenway Park as we celebrate Tommy's 8th birthday." We took 2 cars and we drove to Fenway Park which is about 20 minutes from my home. We had a private tour of Fenway ($7 per child, walked on the field and had a wonderful and memorable experience. We had pizza and cake in the green monster seats. I made a baseball field cake with a large half ball coming out of the cake. I found the example in a cake decorating book at the craft store. My son still plays with the minitiature baseball characters that I placed on the cake. The tour lasted one hour which was a perfect amount of time. On the ride in the car I typed up baseball trivia which I downloaded from the baseball hall of fame web site. Instead of candy, we gave away wiffle balls and a bat which I purchased on sale. For a thank you note, I got copies of a picture with the kids on the field and put post card stickers on the back. Our whole family is still talking about what a great party it was. Too bad our Red Sox lost the ALS about 2 weeks later...
