Batman 4th Birthday Party For our son's 4th birthday he chose a batman theme.
I made the invitations myself. I bought fabulous dark blue card stock that we folded into front flap cards. On the flap we cut out yellow ovals over which we glued a perfectly cut out bat. It looked just like the bat signal. The inside said, "Holy Cake and Ice Cream Batman,Child's name is Turning FOUR! Bat Date: Saturday February 19th Bat Time: 12:30pm - 2:30pm Bat Place: ------------------------ Bat Phone: -----------------------. My husband and I turned our basement into the bat cave by moving out most of the furniture, then covering the walls with black fadeless paper. We hung cut out bats on black string from the ceiling. I glued white eyes to the bats and then we turned on a small black light, so you could just see the glow of the bats eyes when the kids descended down the stairs. After our grand entrance into the bat cave, my husband led a number of games, such as freeze tag, mummy wrap, etc. We then gathered the kids together and gave each child their own bat cape and mask. My mother-in-law and I had made them for each child. We gathered the kids together to take a large group picture and just then the lights went out and the bat signal shown on the ceiling. One of the older boys said "Oh, no! Something is wrong in Gotham City and we need Batman quick!" A few seconds later Batman descended down the stairs - cape flying behind him. It was actually my brother, who is rather tall, wearing a Batman costume I had rented at a local costume shop. The kids were thrilled and had no idea it was "uncle Tim." Batman stayed long enough to discuss some safety tips and take photos with each kid, which we printed on our computer while the kids were eating. After Batman left we ushered the kids upstairs where they snacked on finger foods and drank juice. A short time later we were ready for cake. I had made a six-story high Gotham style building in blue-gray frosting with yellow windows and black bats made from frosting. Several of Batman's arch enemies, including Joker, Harley-Quin, and Riddler were climbing up the sides of the building. Batman was perched on top of the building waiting to conquer his foes. I had purchased extra long candles and we placed these carefully on the four corners of the building, which then looked like lightning rods when they were on fire. The kids were amazed watching us cut this "sky-high" cake and they had a blast eating the large pieces. After the cake and ice cream extravaganza kids were ready to go and we sent them on their way with cape, mask, additional bat favors and their very own portrait with the caped crusader himself.
