Beach Party 7yr - Fishing Game

Honorable Mention

May 2008

Heather in Concord, NC, USA

We found pirate invitations to hand out. The kids were welcome to dress up Hawaiian or beach if they wanted to.  At the door, we had two huge blow up monkeys to greet our guests along with soft beach music. We started the birthday party with a fishing wall which was a 7' cardboard wall made from 3 - 4'display boards taped together on the bottom and 3 display boards taped together and taped on top.  I taped a Sponge Bob plastic scene curtain on the cardboard stand up wall positioned in the corner of the room and had the children use a kids' fishing pole with a small size black paper clippy at the end of the line.  The children first went to a worm buffet table with eight different worms and such to choose from. They fastened their bait on the clip and cast over the fishing wall to wait for a tug". Their prize was a brand new muscle car they were allowed to open and carry around in their pocket or play with while the other children had a turn. This was so fun!!  I had white and green fish nets over several tables real coconuts and bananas for table decorations with chex mix in blue tinted cups along with fresh strawberries apple slices tossed in lemon juice and fresh cheddar slices for snacks.  Then from behind the wall a beach ball was thrown over for the children to take outside for the beach volleyball game.  They liked playing with their own beach ball at first then they were ready for two teams and scoring 5 points before switching sides. Next ice slushies were enjoyed while I explained the treasure hunt game:  we divided 30 children into four teams with a captain who carried the map.  Each team must find 9 missing pieces outside in our Jack and Jill maze.  Each person recieved a spyglass viewfinder as a prize. We came inside to play the Ring Toss on the AA battery operated 4' Pirate Ship. Two lines were formed with masking tape designating the starting point.  Each child had three rings to get on the ship's masts recieving up to three prizes: an eye patch ear ring compass pirate hat or jolly roger head band. Most children received one prize per turn.    The kids had so much fun they stood in line up to three times to play!  Prizes were also handed out at the end for great participation. Next we played the limbo with fun beach music.  Then pizza was delivered and the children helped themselves to drinks on ice in the tikki-cooler: fruit and apple juice with straws and vanilla and chocolate in the boxes milk with straws. We also served cake with a palm tree and blue ocean decorations. Our friend brought his guitar for us to sing Happy Birthday two times. In the gift bags we handed out sunglasses tropical flavor candy and a party blower.  What a great party! It was so fun."
