Like many male preschoolers these days, Our soon to be 4 year old will be having a "Bob the Builder" birthday party in August. The invitations are inexpensive plastic
children's tools (such as hammers, screw drivers, etc.) with tags tied to them, inviting the children and their parents to a "Bob the Builder Birthday Party.... Come build a
fabulous birthday party with (child's name) on Saturday, August 25th....".
When they arrive, all children will be given a plastic construction hat (available at many party supply locations) and a nail apron (which we purchased very inexpensively at our local home improvement store). We also have considered safety goggles, just like Bob's.... you can often find them, too, inexpensively at the hardware store. For decorations, will be using orange construction cones on yellow tablecloths. Of course, there will be balloons which will be threaded through the holes in the tops of the construction cones and secured beneath them. Make sure there are enough balloons for every child to take one home! Each spot at the table will have an inexpensive dollar store dump truck filled with treats. Homemade Construction signs (Caution: Birthday Party Construction Zone!) will adorn the picnic shelter. Every child will have a drink box with a drink box cover... this is my favorite touch! I photo copy a picture of the birthday party theme character (in this case, Bob the Builder) onto colored paper. Then I wrap the colored paper around a drink box and secure it with double stick tape. It looks adorable... and the best part is, it won't spill as easily... a great touch if you have beige carpet in your home! :-) For an activity, all children will be "Making" a hat rack for their construction hat and nail apron. We have pre-drilled 2 holes in a 3/4" x 4" x 18" piece of wood. The kids will "hammer" in a wooden peg into each hole then paint and decorate their new hat rack with paints.... messy and fun! And don't forget to keep chanting "Can we Build it? Yes, we can!! Need another activity? How about a parent/child wheel barrow race? Or a dump truck relay? "Can we do it? Yes, we can!"
