To create a Nancy Drew theme birthday party, we sent out invitations using Nancy Drew clip art available on line. We used Courier Font for the wording so the invitation looked like it had been
typed on a typewriter. We invited the guests to dress up as their favorite character and to remember the password Lemon Bars" When the guests arrived Mrs Gruen (mom) would verify
that the guests knew the password. She also asked them a few additional questions to determine whether they were an imposter or not. The first game we played was to pin names on the
guests back of girl detectives such as Sammy Keyes Annie from the Magic Tree House series etc. After that we played Mad Libs using the Nancy Drew version Copyright 2005 by Price Stern Sloan.
When the girls read back the stories they had to say "I'll be there in a jiffy" every time Nancy's name was read "Hypers" every time George's name was read "Yes
Sir" every time Chief McGinnis was read etc. We gave a prize for the best participation.
We followed this with a few mini Mysteries I found on line. Prizes were given to the first girl that raised her hadn with the right answer. Next we had a dress up relay. The girls had to put on a wig hat pearls shawl glove skirt and heels. The next game was an obstacle course. Just like Nancy who has so many talents the girls had to arrange some silk flowers in a vase hit a tennis ball don a hula outfit and do the hula make four cookies out of playdough build a model out of some baby toys that snapped together do hopscotch dodge a speeding (miniature remote controlled) car and then take the flower arrangement apart again. This was really a big hit. We ran the course in pairs and timed them to determine the winner. After that the birtday girl got a phone call from a French Chef who told her he had taken her hamster to make a new recipe named Hamster Hollandaise. She and her friends had to follow a series of clues to find the hamster back. For party favors each girl received a small canvas bag with a flash light keychain taffy bracelet and pretty hair ties. Everyone really had a great time at the party. "
