Book & Mall Scavenger 13yr

My daugther has always wanted a mall party, but our local mall is too small and not "fun enough".  So for her 13th birthday, I decided to do half a mall scavenger hunt and half bookstore scavenger hunt (since she loves books).  When I put the ideas together, I came up with a Bookstore/Mall Scavenger Hunt!!!!!!!! Our favorite bookstore is connected to our local mall, so it really worked out great. INVITATIONS: Make a card and on the front, make it look like a book. The title was NAME'S BOOKSTORE SVCAVENGER HUNT. And then I put by NAME in a smaller print under it.  That covered only some of the front of the card, so I drew a picture of me with books in one hand and balloons in the other hand. On the inside I put  ONCE APON A TIME, THERE LIVED A BOOK LOVING GIRL NAMED NAME.  SHE WANTED TO CELEBRATE HER BIRTHDAY WITH HER FRIENDS BY HAVING A BOOKSTORE SCAVENGER HUNT.  SHE INVITED ALL OF HER FRIENDS TO COME TO ADDRESS ON DATE AT TIME, AND TO BE PICKED UP THE NEXT DAY AT TIME.  SHE TOLD ALL OF THE PARENTS TO RSVP BY DATE (PHONE NUMBER). THE DAY OF THE PARTY, ALL OF HER FRIENDS CAME TO HER HOUSE AND WERE DRIVEN TO BARNES & NOBLE, WHERE THEY STARTED THE SCAVENGER HUNT. THEY HAD DINNER AT NATHAN'S AND WERE TREATED TO A SURPRISE AFTER.  ALL OF THE GIRLS WENT HOME AND HAD A SLEEPOVER.  FINALLY, THEIR PARENTS PICKED THEM UP AND EVERYONE WAS SAD TO SAY GOOD BYE. THE END. So it tells you everything in that story, why, where, when, and RSVP.  We decorated the "book" with book stickers and birthday stickers. Tada!  Just mail!!!  But make sure the kids are old enough to travel around the bookstore with another "buddy". DECORATIONS/FOOD:  We certainly couldn't decorate the mall, and we didn't really have a them with decorations at home, so we just took balloons and streamers in pink, blue, and light purple and put them around the party room.  We had old books stacked up as a table centerpiece and we had a buffet table with a food item, and then my favorite mystery book, a food item, and then my favorite non-fiction book, etc. We just stood the books up for everyone to see.  For food, we had Nathan's for dinner, which is a hot dog/hamburger place in the mall, a large sheet cake made to look like an open book that said HAPPY BIRTHDAY NAME, for breakfast we had waffles and doughnuts, and on the buffet table we had regular sleepover stuff, like chips, soda, popcorn, cookies, lemonade, etc.  THE PARTY:  When the kids came to my house, we had a raffle for my favorite book, ALL AMERICAN GIRL by Meg Cabot.  We made our own tickets and gave everyone five.  We did the raffle and the winner got to keep the book. Next, we went to Barnes & Noble. We went to the children's section and sat on the play stage they have there.  We handed out packets and pens to the group (each group had 2 kids in it). The packets: The first page clearly listed the rules and directions for the game.  The rules were that everyone had to be respectful of the others in the store, no yelling, running, etc. You also had to stay with your buddy, and if you and your buddy got seperated, you had to come back to me (Mom) at the play stage.  The other thing on the page were directions.  They were given a sheet of clues, each team was mixed up so they wouldn't follow each other. They had to locate a book and only were allowed to ask for help from a worker if they looked and really couldn't find the book. We made that clear to the kids.  The kids had to write down on a piece of paper EXACTLY where they found that book, bring the book back to the play stage, show it to me, check it off on their list, and return the book. That way, I would know that they found the book and they would be checking in with me so I could make sure they were okay. They also had to find stuff for their goody bags, which they would take back and hand to me (Mom). Some of these things included bookmarks, small journals, cheap books, etc.  Other clues would be just to get information. The first group to check off everything won a cookie from the cafe that is inside the bookstore. Some of the clues included.....THESE BOOKS ARE REALLY 'GOOSEY', IT GIVES ME LITTLE BUMPS, I'LL BE FOUND IN THE KIDS SECTION, I'LL BE 4 OF THESE IN A CLUMP....Which told the kids to go and get a boxed set of 5 Goosebumps books.  Another clue would be.....IF I EAT A COOKIE, I'LL SURELY NEED SOME MILK, SO LOOK AROUND AND FIND ME, QUICK, QUICK, QUICK!....Which told the kids to go and get IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE. Another clue could be...I AM VERY THIN AND I KEEP YOU IN PLACE, GET ONE FOR EACH OF YOU, HURRY THIS IS A RACE!...which would tell kids to get any bookmark they wanted.  Another example would be...THIS IS HOW MUCH YOU OWE, WHEN YOU BUY A CUP OF TEA, WRITE THE NUMBER DOWN, THEN GO AND FLEE!...Which would tell the kids that they needed to write down how much it costs to buy a cup of tea in the cafe. After the first team is done, wait a couple minutes for the rest of the kids, and if they are that slow, go out and look for them.  Then, pay for the items they got for their goody bags.  We went to Nathan's and ate dinner. Then we surprised the kids by taking them to Claire's (which is in the mall) and let them pick out anything they wanted for under $5. This would be included in their goody bag. We then came home, ate cake, and opened presents.  We then played a round of book themed games. We had STORY SWITCH UP, where titles of books were switched and placed with a different author.  You had to put the authors with their right book/books.  Whoever got them all right first won a fluffy, feathery pen. We also had a BOOK BALANCING CONTEST. We went into groups of two and the kids had to put one book on their head, walk around a cone and back to their team, put another book on their head, do the same thing, and put one more book on their head and do the same thing.  Whichever team did that for both girls won 2 fancy pencils each. We also had CHARACTER CHARADES, where the girls had to act out famous characters, like Harry Potter or Fern from Charlotte's Web.  We then did our craft, making friend books. Each girl got a couple pieces of paper and decorated it however they wanted to make it look like a book.  The put whatever info they wanted, such as birthday, full name, or favorite hobby.  They went around having each girl at the party sign it and put in their information. Finally we watched some movies.  We watched movies that were originally books, like MATILDA, FREAKY FRIDAY, THE PRINCESS DIARIES, HARRY POTTER, THE FACE ON THE MILK CARTON, LORD OF THE RINGS, etc. In the morning, we ate breakfast, gave out goody bags, and waited for their parents to come.  GOODY BAGS:  They had their thing from Claire's, their friend books, a bookmark, and a pretty pen.  I HOPE YOU LIKED MY IDEAS.  THIS WAS ONE OF MY DAUGHTER'S FAVORITE PARTIES.
