Our son's nursery theme is the classic Peter Rabbit book by Beatrix Potter and we wanted a party to go along with that. The party invitations said, "Follow the Trail of Books and hop on over to Reece's 1st Birthday Party" and had a picture of Peter Rabbit on it. They were printed on vellum and I attached them to a photograph of Reece with blue ribbon. The place of the party was listed as Reece's garden and had our address on it. When the guests arrived, they walked through the "Trail of Books". We put up plastic white picket fencing (can be purchased at any store with a lawn section for cheap!) along the sidewalk with many Beatrix Potter books lying up against the fencing. (It was forecasted rain so we put each book inside a large Ziploc bag and that worked well). For indoor decorations we used Peter Rabbit fabrics on the tables along with other Beatrix Potter books set up for display and stuffed rabbits and other breakable rabbits that resembled Peter Rabbit which were purchased at various stores during Easter. Each chair had a yellow and blue balloon tied to it. We also used Peter Rabbit placemats, cups, plates, & napkins purchased online. We continued our garden theme with our snacks. The book Munch! Munch! Peter Rabbit was placed on the table. We had Carrot Cake with a garden scene on top (white picket fence purchased in the dollhouse section at a craft store; Peter Rabbit and Mr. MacGregor pawns from a gameboard, green grass icing and carrot shavings). We also served fresh carrots & Roma tomatoes and ranch dip, spinach dip and crackers, cucumber sandwiches, fruit kabobs, celery sticks topped with peanut butter, and Peter Rabbit chocolates purchased at Easter. The food was served in pots for planting and Peter Rabbit teapots. We had a large wicker basket full of goodies for the guests with a note saying "Thanks for partying in my garden with me! Love, Reece" and a picture from the book on it. Each child received a board book The Tale of Peter Rabbit (larger books were given to the older children) that were purchased at Easter, coloring pages that were printed from the internet, and Peter Rabbit stickers. We all had so much fun that I created an entire scrapbook of memories from the party. The first page says "The Tale of Reece's 1st Birthday Party!"
