Mother Goose Party 1yr

September 2007

Jennifer in Bartlett, TN, USA

My little girl just turned one. We decided that a Mother Goose theme would be just right: Invitations: I found invitations with the cow and moon and dish and spoon on them. I had the following poem printed on the invitations: Hey Diddle, Diddle with a smile and a giggle we invite you to join in the fun we'll laugh and we'll play and all shout hooray!" sweet ____ is turning one!   I found an adorable outdoor gazebo/park to have the party in. I also found a Mother Goose character to come to the party and do finger plays and nursery rhymes with the kiddos.  jack and jill pails: I found 2 large galvanized paint buckets at a hardware store. I painted the word "jack" on one and "jill" on the other with paint pens. On the opposite side of each bucket I painted large flower pots in pink hues. I then used a craft idea from marthastewart.com to create flowers out of tissue paper. Each flower was placed in floral foam inside the flower pot. I typed the words to the poem "mary mary quite contrary" on scrapbook paper and affixed the paper to a floral wire and placed it in the center of each pot.  Three Little Kittens: I took the same cute scrapbook paper (same colorvarying patterns) and cut out mitten patterns. I then bought tiny clothespins and attached the mittens to a clothes line. I placed the clothesline in the gazebo as a garland.  Goodie Bags/Party Favors; Each family represented received a paperback version of Tomie DePaola's Mother Goose Favorites. Since I couldn't afford to purchase a book for each child in attendance I bought a star shaped candy/lollipop mold and made chocolate stars for each child. I wrapped each lollipop with a cellophane baggie and tied it with ribbon. I then printed a little poem onto scrapbook paper and affixed the poem to each lollipop:   Twinkle twinkle little star what a special friend you are! Thank you for coming to _____'s first birthday party!  Lost Sheep Game (Little Bo Peep): I hid little construction paper sheep in various places in the playground area of the park. Then I had the children search for Little Bo Peep's missing sheep. When they found one they received a piece of candy.    "
