Bug or Insect Party for Age 4
I made a bug cake which was made up of 3 cakes. Two were the long sheet cakes and one was a round cake. I put the two sheet cakes together and placed the round one in the middle. I covered it with chocolate icing and crushed graham crackers and Oreo cookies. The crushed cookies made the cake look like dirt. I covered the cake with plastic snakes and bugs. Before the party I hid plastic bugs, snakes and lizards all over the room of the party. I hand made small bug nets and each child received their own. I made bug antennae for party hats out of head bands, pipe cleaners and painted foam balls. They were used as party hats. When the kids arrived they went on the bug hunt. They loved it. Then they played pin the spider on the web. I hung a huge Halloween web in the corner of the room and put two large spiders on it. One higher then the other for the older kids. The object was to put the baby spider with its mother, blindfolded. Then they beat up on the butterfly pinata. They also had mud pies with worms in them. (chocolate pudding and Gumi worms) I put them in the mini pie tins. I decorated with streamers, insect balloons and hand made butterflies. Made from clothes pins and coffee filters. Each child took one home too. They had lots of fun and my son said he loved the bug hunt the best. Our invitations were bug invitations sealed with bug stickers. We rented a room in the sports complex. We also had finger foods for the adults and children and each table was decorated with ants and flies.
