We celebrated my youngest son's third birthday party with a BIG BUG BASH! The invitations had painted bugs stamped all over them and the outside was a bee that read BEE THERE, the inside
had dragonflies, ladybugs and caterpillars stamped for a border and said BUG OUT WITH MATTHEW ON HIS 3RD BIRTHDAY, we used another idea already posted for the invitation info. date, FLY ON
OVER TO, INFESTATION TIME, BUZZ ME
THANK YOU FOR JOINING MY SWARM. For decorations I got some giant 3D Mylar balloons of butterflies and dragonflies, then latex balloons in matching colors. This was a backyard picnic for the whole family, so I used the large balloons as centerpieces on the food, drink, present tables. I used the latex balloons for the picnic tables and hung some on the swing set equipment. I found tablecloths at 50% even at our local party store with bugs on. I bought a ton of fake bugs to throw on the tables to decorate. I also had jars of gummy spiders, gummy worms, etc. I stamped flowerpots with the same bug stamps that I used for my invitations. We had HAPPY BIRTHDAY signs hung everywhere. I had bee antennas, that I found at our local craft store, waiting for the kids when they got there. I bought colored paper bags and wrote their names...MATTHEW'S CRITTERS, CAMERON'S CRITTERS. In their bags I had bug pez dispensers, bug stickers, bug lollipops, bug barrettes for the girls, bubbles, etc. For games we played PIN THE BEE ON THE FLOWER made out of felt on a demonstration board. We had an earthworm pinata filled with candy, bugs, stickers, etc. The pinata got a little dangerous and violent with the 3-yr-olds. We feasted on hot dogs, hamburgers with all the fixens and appetizers. For dessert we ate a ladybug cake made in a dome pan with red velvet cake mix with red icing, chocolates and black licorice and laid it in a tray with black and red jellybeans. Also, we had caterpillar cupcakes mixed up of yellow and devils food cake. I frosted them with chocolate frosting and laid them in a bed of green coconut with gumballs as their feet. And lastly we ate a butterfly cake made up of one round cake and Twinkie. I frosted that purple with colorful details, and again, black licorice for the antennas. Everyone had a good time! He asked how many days until his next birthday!
