BUG BASH!!! For my daughter's 2nd birthday we had a "Bug Bash" at our home. Invitations had a schedule of events including a bug hunt, put the spot on the ladybug, make
wormy mud pies etc. As a tablecloth for the main party table we used astro-turf which we found at a home improvement store, and tissue paper flowers. We covered the "grass"
with tons of plastic bugs, we hung butterflies and flying insects from the chandelier. Each child's setting had a plastic flowerpot with their name and insects on it.
The kids went on a BUG HUNT, where the children used their flower pots to hold all the bugs they could find hidden in the back yard. Then we played PUT THE SPOT ON THE LADYBUG, which was a giant ladybug made from red and black posterboard. Each child was blind folded and given half of an Oreo cookie. They licked the frosting and tried to put the moist cookie on one of the predawn spots (hysterical!). Then they made WORMY MUD PIES using small flower pots and chocolate pudding (mud), crumbled Oreos (dirt), M&Ms (rocks), gummy worms, and candy lollypop flowers. We had caterpillar sandwiches, using carrots and celery for their legs, olives on toothpicks as eyes; butterfly pizza, removing two pieces of the whole pizza to create the shape of butterfly wings and adding bread sticks for the bodies; and garden punch, fruit punch served from a watering can. For the cake we made a ladybug with mini Oreo's as spots on bright red frosting. Finally, we had a butterfly pinata. As the children left they were given a butterfly net filled with bug toys, a packet of flower seeds, and a set of antenna and wings. The party was a lot of hard work, but it was a smash hit with the kids and the parents.
