This is a very simple spider party that I did for my 11 year old son. 2 weeks before his birthday he had an emergency appendectomy so we were not sure whether he'd be up for a party. He
also decided to switch themes at the last minute and wanted spiders - an easy theme I would think near Halloween but in March, spider things are just not very prevalent!
First I made his invitations. We put a picture of a tarantula holding a bouquet of balloons on the front. The caption said, "Creep on over to celebrate Jacob's 11th birthday!" We were unable to find any partyware with spiders to I bought plain black plates and black streamers. We cut 8 strips of streamers for each plate and taped "legs" onto them and put little faces with a gold gel pen on the rim of each plate. We had the table set before the guests arrived so it looked like 10 spiders laying on the table. To decorate the party room, my husband hung brown and black streamers around the ceiling in the shape of a cobweb with our chandelier at the center. He wrapped black streamer around the chandelier chain and then attached a beanie baby spider to it. For the cake, I made a chocolate bundt cake with chocolate glaze. I then grated Hershey's hugs over it to look like hair and put 2 Hershey's hugs on the front for eyes. I then attached 8 black licorice stick legs. For party favors, I put spider stickers on a white paper bags. Inside were plastic spiders from a dollar store. We also included some chocolate/coconut cookies that my son thought looked like spider bodies. We also sent home "spider legs" with all the boys who liked black licorice. One idea I had but was unable to do due to time constraint was for the pizza we ordered. I had hoped to make it to the pizza place before the party and have them arrange some spiders on the pizza for us so we were delivered a spider pizza. After eating pizza my husband took them on a nature walk and exploring in the woods. Unfortunately, we found no spiders but the boys had a blast anyway.
