My son wanted a bug birthday party for his 6th birthday. The only bug invittions i could find were of ladybugs and looked kind of girlish so I made my own out of cardstock and rubber stamps.  For the boys I stamped ants and the girls were ladybugs. The invitations read "Bug Out" with (child's name) on his 6th birthday. Fly on over to:location Infestation time:time of party Buzz me:RSVP Come join our swarm! These turned out really cute.  I used a checkered tablecloth for the tables and used pinic tableware for the food. I used several large plastic bugs for the centerpiece. I baked cupcakes and used jellybeans and tubes of icing to make bugs on top. I used red jellybeans for ladybugs and black icing for their spots and antennae. For bees I used yellow jellybeans and black icing for stripes and antennae also green and orange icing for flowers. i used orange and yellow jellybeans for butterflies and colored icing for their wings and antennae, for spiders I used the purple jellybeans with black icing for the legs I used white icing for the webs, green jellybeans for the caterpillars with black icing for stripes.  The kids loved them.  I bought inexpensive bug boxes at the dollar store. These were really cool because they came with everything already inside (flashlight, tweezers, bug viewer thongs, and a magnifying glass). I used marker to write each childs name on them.  I also gave each child a bag with their name on it so they could empty out the bug boxes for the bug hunt. I bought plastic bugs from a party warehouse and hid them in the yard so the kids could go on a bug hunt. Even the girls didn't mind catching these bugs! For the next game I used black felt squares bought at a craft store and drew webs on them with silver permanent marker, these were used for the "Web Walk" played just like musical chairs.  The last game we played was the best.  I used the pieces of my son's cootie bug game and stuffed each piece in a balloon.  We divided the kids up into teams and did a relay race. The first child would grab a balloon, run down to the line, pop the balloon to get the piece inside, run back, put the piece on the cootie bug body.  Then the next player would go and so on ...... until the  bugs were completely put together. This game was alot of fun to play and to watch. Instead of awarding prizes to the winners of each game, everyone was given a prize after each game. The prizes were beaded bug keychains(bought from oriental trading), Ladybug lipgloss keychains for the girls (bought from birthday express), light-up spider keychains for the boys (also bought from oriental trading).  The kids also got to keep the webs from the "Web Walk" and I gave them each a couple of jumping bugs to go with the webs so they could pratice jumping the bugs into  the webs. The last activity for the day was a dragonfly pinata filled with candy and bug fruit snack packs.  When I first started planning this birthday party I was worried because I was having trouble finding bug party stuff and I was afraid I wouldn't have enough ideas to pull it off but all in all I think it went rather well.  I hope this gives you some ideas you can use at your next bug party.
