Butterfly Birthday Party! My daughter Carmela would be turning 3 years old and LOVES Butterfly's! I used many ideas from this very website.  We took bright yellow posterboard and made all the signs with purple and pink glitter (her favorite colors), "Carmela's Butterfly Farm" at the gate to the backyard, a "clothes line of "butterfly halo's (butterfly antenna - pipe cleaners?) and wings (Dollar Store). Bubbles from 2 bubble blowers filled the air throughout the party, the first stop was a drawing station where we made coffee filter butterfly's by using washable markers to draw on coffee filter wings, then sprayed them with water from a misting bottle --this makes them look tie dyed (write names on wings -- they look VERY different after they dry), we used old fashiond clothes pins with previously drawn funny eyes and mouths.  As you looked around the back yard with streamers attached to anything not moving, you saw 200 plus butterfly's "flying" ALL over the yard (butterfly's copied off of the internet and out of coloring books on colored paper, cut out by wonderful friends and glued to clothes pins. 50 plus catapillars" crawled all over bushes and lawn ornaments, while kids of all ages "flew" through the air in a moonbounce, affectionately relabeled the "Butterfly Hut" (another glitter posterboard creation). As kids came out of the hut, one by one they played pin the spot on the butterfly, when all kids had played a prize was picked out of a basket filled with bug and butterfly related prizes (GOD BLESS THE DOLLAR STORE!).  We took a break, I read Eric Carle's the Hungry Catapillar, then we played find the catapillar with the 50 catapillars and butterfly nets (dollar store), after that we made all the kids into coccoons, they had to BURST OUT! to become Beautiful Butterfly's. We ate peanut butterfly and jelly sandwiches (butterfly cookie cutter) and snacked on Butterfly cupcakes (orange, green and yellow slices of candy in the shapes of wings, surrounding a cut in 1/2 gummy worm, with licorce antenna, and a catapillar cake, GREEN with red spots, confetti cake using a bundt cake, sliced in 3 pieces and placed end to end, to form the wriggly body, green icing (what can I say??? - it took 3/4 of a bottle of green food coloring and 3 containers of icing before Carmela was happy with the green.  Ick.  Kids took home, their wings and antenna's, their coffee filter butterfly's, coccoon gift bags full of party goodies (pinata filling) in their butterfly nets along with a butterfly coloring book, I created using all the butterfly's, I had collected. Needless, to say it was a wonderful party, thanks to all the wonderful ideas given on this website! It was truly a wonderful day!
