Enchanted garden fairy party We had a fairy party for girls age 12 up to 16 and also invited their mothers too.
We met with the girls about two weeks before the party and made fairy wings for everyone out of queensize white pantyhose and wire. There are several internet sites with information on how to make these and they were surpriseling simple to make. The girls had a wonderful time spraying them with spray paint and decorating with glitter and fake jewels. I was able to find the pantyhose on ebay for less than a dollar a pair. We used cheap satin ribbon to tie them on. For invitations I made tiny little invitations(1 1/2" square on my computer), and little envelopes to put them in so they looked like a fairy had made them. I put a small amount of clear glitter in them and said the Queen of the fairies was inviting them to an enchanted garden party. Before the party I placed fairies, elves, frogs with crowns, anything that might be enchanted in my garden. I have many statues like this but you could easily cut them out of paper or perhaps dress dolls as fairies. During the evening the girls hunted for them and the one that found the most got a prize. I also strung a few strands of christmas white lights in the trees, even though it was daylight they still made everything look magical. The food was all different kinds of salads, because it was all women and girls we encouraged everyone to try different recipes. The salads were wonderful. I made a fower petal salad with pansy and rose petals and nasturtiums, with regular salad which are all edible. We also had slices of buttered bread dusted with sugar and pansy petals(yes, they are edible). This is the favorite food of fairies! Strawberries with fruit dip is also a must. The tables were covered in pink, and lavender plastic table clothes(leftover from a wedding) and we used tulle draped down the center with silk flowere tucked in. Beautiful pastel flowered napkins and paper cups. The punch was pineapple juice, gingerale and strawberry kool-aid with frozen strawberries floated in it. We encouraged everyone to wear something romantic and fairy like, with lots of flowers. It was amazing what they wore! As each guest arrived they were given their wings and a name tag and told to come up with their own fairy name (tulip, firefly, rosebud). I had celtic music playing in the background. Perhaps one of the funnest things we did was I found some old gold curtains and I made simple tunics for some very willing young men (about 16) who wore them over their football tights, sprayed their hair green, and wore flowers in their hair.(yes they really did) They served punch and cleared dishes away for us. This always makes everyone feel so special. Then they lipsinced the song "I beleive I can fly" by R. Kelley, pretty funny and the girls love it and so did the women. The girls also modeled their wings for everyone in a runway fashion show. As the grand finale, a friend of my dressed as the queen of the fairies with a tulle skirt, wings and a wand. She renewed their magicle powers for them after they proved they were real fairies by catching a bubble in their hands. Few people were aware of the new product called "catch a bubble" that you can get at wallmart. It is just like regular bubbles that you blow but they last longer and you can catch them and hold them for awhile. The look of wonder on everyones face was so funny. As they caught them they showed them to the queen and she gave them a fairy necklace. The necklaces were cheap and easy to make. It was simply silver cord(fabric store) and blue pearlized marbles(got these at the dollar store) hot glued together with the marble glued on the joined area.. I wouldn't do these for young children but for older girls they were really pretty. It was a magical evening and so fun!The only regret was the mothers wished they had got fairy wings too. P.s Many of the girls wore their wing to prom later that year.
