Little Miss Spider's Tea Party - A Little Girls 3rd Birthday Party book by David Kirk
Everyone raved about this fun, simple, and inexpensive party! The guest were full of smiles and happiness. A fun time was had by all. I began my little girl's 3rd birthday party by reading her favorite books, Miss Spider?s Tea Party- A Counting Book and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Next, while listening to a collection of spider, bugs, and butterfly songs, the girls made their own beautiful butterflies like the butterflies in Miss Spider?s Tea Party and the butterfly in The Hungry Caterpillar book. I pre-cut the butterflies out of posterboard paper, cut the inside of the butterfly wings out, placed clear contact paper on one side (sticky side up). The girls placed pastel colored tissue on the butterflies? wings. The moms sealed the wings with an extra sheet of clear contact paper, and used pipe cleaners for antennae. Early finishers can glue butterfly pasta (food colored bow tie pasta)and insect stickers onto paper to make a pretty butterfly picture. The children absolutely loved the craft activites! Their butterflies were beautiful! Once they completed the craft, we had a butterfly hunt. Using butterfly nets purchased at the dollar store, guests went outside to ?catch? butterflies with their nets. I placed the butterflies around the yard ahead of time. I used various colored pre-cut foam butterflies and foam butterfly stickers purchased at a local craft store. Once all of the butterflies are in the nets, nets are collected, and we go inside for one last story. Each child has a stuffed spider/butterfly to hold or one of their foam butterflies from the butterfly hunt. I read Miss Spider's ABC's which ends in "Happy Birthday Miss Spider", I inserted my child's name. We then went to a separate room that my child nor the other guest had seen. I had the room decorated like Miss Spider?s Tea Party- balloons, streamers, tea cups, a Little Miss Spider cake, ice cream, fish crackers, and pink lemonade. The girls had a great tea party! Each guest received a bright yellow bag with a Miss Spider board book, butterfly stickers and their butterfly nets full of foam butterflies and foam butterfly stickers. Cake- I used an hexagon cake pan to make a cake just like the tea cakes in the Little Miss Spider?s Tea Party book. I placed butterflies around the cake with a picture of Little Miss Spider on top of the cake.
