For My Daughter's 5th birthday we had a butterfly birthday bash.
We made invitations on the computer using butterfly clip art, inviting everyone to Kate's butterfly birthday bash. When the guest arrived, we had them all sit at the dining room table, where butterfly nets had been tied to their chairs with pink tulle. The guests then colored on a coffee filter with bright markers, then we showed them how to fan fold the coffee filters and slip them into an old fashioned clothes peg which had a magnet already glued onto the back, then they took a pipe cleaner and tied it around the head part of the clothes peg(for the antenna) and drew a face. Then we colored a stained glass butterfly which are pages out of a book purchased from Dover Books.com. While they were coloring we let them choose a butterfly tattoo(also purchased at Dover Books)and put them on them with a wet sponge. Next, the guests grabbed their butterfly nets and went into the back yard where candy with butterfly stickers on them, had been hidden all over the yard. The children were limited to 10 pieces of candy each and they could help the others when they found all 10 of theirs. We then went back in for cake and ice cream. The cake was decorated like a butterfly of course(Family fun ) and then we took vanilla ice cream ( gallon size cube) and sliced it and used a butterfly cookie cutter to cut out butterfly shaped ice cream then we put sprinkles on it and froze it until party time. We even had butterfly shaped candles to go in the party bags. The guest went home with their butterfly magnets, butterfly nets with candy, and a party bag with candles, a butterfly shaped slinky,( found at the dollar store)and butterfly tattoos. It was really a great party and no free time to read the very hungry caterpillar.
